The Rickard Family Foundation concentrates its giving on a small number of large, institution-building gifts, primarily supporting private independent schools’ capital campaigns and a national service/assistance-dog organization. Grants are sizable and targeted (capital projects and general operating support), indicating a preference for tangible impact on long-term capacity rather than many small awards. The foundation shows both one-off major capital commitments and repeated support to a single nonprofit providing guide dog services.
The Rickard Family Foundation’s giving is built around a few large, targeted commitments rather than broad, scattered support. Its biggest recent award was a $100,000 capital campaign grant to Falmouth Academy Incorporated in Falmouth, Massachusetts, followed by a $50,000 capital campaign gift to Friends Academy Inc in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Those school gifts sit alongside repeated operating support for Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc in Palmetto, Florida, which received $30,000 in each of 2023, 2024, and 2025. That pattern points to a funder that favors institution-building needs: capital campaigns, capital projects, and general operating support for organizations with clear long-term infrastructure or service goals. Recent grants also show attention to private K–12 education, service and assistance-dog programs, and selected health and community organizations. The foundation’s awards are not numerous small checks; they are selective gifts aimed at strengthening an organization’s capacity or advancing a specific project. In the recent grants list, private schools and guide-dog providers account for some of the clearest recurring relationships, while other beneficiaries appear as one-time recipients of major support.
Independent-school facilities and capital needs are a central theme. In 2024, the foundation gave $100,000 to Falmouth Academy Incorporated for its capital campaign and $50,000 to Friends Academy Inc for capital campaign funds, indicating a strong preference for school infrastructure and long-term capacity. The foundation also supports service-animal work. Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc received $30,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for general and unrestricted use, showing a repeated commitment to assistance-dog services. Health and community institutions appear as well. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Inc received $20,000 in both 2023 and 2024 and $15,000 in 2025, while Dunedin Cares Inc received $15,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Those awards suggest a mix of medical, social-service, and community support alongside the school-focused gifts.
Typical awards cluster in the low five-figure range: the 25th percentile is $5,000, the median is $13,750, and the 75th percentile is $16,250. The recent grant list also includes several larger outliers at $20,000, $30,000, $50,000, and $100,000, which lift the average above the median. The foundation’s pattern is more repeat-relationship than one-off giving in some areas, especially with Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc and a handful of other organizations that appear across multiple years. It is a private foundation with no program-related investments and no individual giving.
