The Richard L Burdick Foundation concentrates its giving on youth education and development, with significant support for both faith-based K–12 schooling and international residential education for disadvantaged children. A substantial portion of grants fund scouting organizations and Christian schooling, and the foundation tends to make large, repeat gifts to a small set of trusted grantees rather than many one-off awards.
The Richard L Burdick Foundation’s most distinctive pattern is its repeat support for a small set of youth-serving organizations, including a $300,000 grant to Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project in 2025 and a $175,000 grant to Boy Scouts of America in 2023. That combination points to a funder that backs long-term institutional relationships rather than broad, one-time support. Its giving centers on youth education and development, with especially clear support for international residential education for disadvantaged children, scouting and youth leadership development, and Christian K–12 schooling in Texas. The foundation’s recent grants also include $100,000 to Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project in 2025 and $100,000 to New Braunfels Christian Academy in 2023, showing that it can make large awards across both international and Texas-based education settings. A smaller 2025 grant to Interamerican Scout Foundation fits the same youth-development pattern, while other recent awards show continued support for faith-based schools and related institutions. Overall, the foundation appears to favor established grantees and large charitable gifts tied to education and youth formation.
In residential education for disadvantaged children, the foundation gave $300,000 in 2025 and another $100,000 in 2025 to Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project. That is the clearest example of its interest in boarding-school models that serve children outside the usual local-school structure. In scouting and youth leadership development, it provided $175,000 to Boy Scouts of America in 2023 and $115,000 in 2025, alongside a $39,000 grant in 2025 to Interamerican Scout Foundation. The foundation also supports Christian K–12 private schooling in Texas: it gave $100,000 in 2023 to New Braunfels Christian Academy and $5,000 in 2025 to San Antonio Baptist Academy. Across these areas, the common thread is institutional support for youth-serving organizations rather than individual aid.
Typical grants are large: the p25 is $30,500, the median is $100,000, and the p75 is $130,000. The recent record shows repeat awards to the same organizations across years, including Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project and Boy Scouts of America, which fits a relationship-driven approach. The foundation does not fund individuals and does not make program-related investments. Its grants are charitable, and the pattern points to direct institutional support rather than a broad-open application model.
