Festival Napa Valley champions the power of music to enrich the human experience and create a thriving, healthy, and engaged community by bringing the arts to all through world-class performances and inspiring arts education programs.
Napa Valley Festival Association’s recent giving is anchored by a $75,000 grant to ArtSmart in Philadelphia for arts education, alongside a $55,000 award to Napa Valley Education Foundation in Napa. Those grants sit within a pattern of support for arts education tied to classical music, opera, youth programs, and community concerts. The association’s active programs show that it also funds named prizes and academy-based awards, including the Prescott Ashe Scholarship, the Joel Revzen Conducting Prize, and the Manetti Shrem Opera Prize, which link grantmaking to performance, training, and career development. Its work is designed around direct program support rather than broad unrestricted philanthropy. The organization’s summary emphasizes bringing the arts to all through world-class performances and arts education programs, and the active grant list shows this in practice through scholarships, prizes, and summer-season performance opportunities. Recent awards range from larger arts education grants to targeted artist-development prizes, suggesting a mix of community-facing support and support for emerging classical musicians, composers, and opera artists.
Arts education is the clearest theme in the recent grants, with $30,000 to Food for Soul Inc in Liverpool, NY for arts education and $20,000 to Los Angeles Virtuosi in Los Angeles for arts education. The association also backed school-connected work through a $55,000 grant to Napa Valley Education Foundation in Napa. Artist development appears in its program-based awards. The Prescott Ashe Scholarship supports a college or conservatory student in the Summer Music Academy, covering tuition and expenses for the academy. The Joel Revzen Conducting Prize is an annual summer residency and career development grant in memory of Maestro Joel Revzen. Opera and composition also appear in the active program lineup through the Manetti Shrem Opera Prize and the Maria Manetti Shrem Daniel Brewbaker Composer Prize, both tied to Festival Napa Valley’s summer season.
Typical grant size centers in the mid-range, with a p25 of $20,000, a median of $30,000, and a p75 of $55,000. The recent grant list shows one larger outlier at $75,000, but most awards cluster around these levels. The organization gives through annual scholarships, prizes, and program grants, which suggests an ongoing programmatic structure rather than one-off gifts only. Several active programs are annual, including the Prescott Ashe Scholarship, Joel Revzen Conducting Prize, Darioush and Shahpar Khaledi Prize, Maria Manetti Shrem Daniel Brewbaker Composer Prize, and Manetti Shrem Opera Prize. The Frost School at Festival Napa Valley — Blackburn Music Academy accepts unsolicited applications.
