The Morton & Sophia Macht Foundation concentrates its giving in the Baltimore area with a clear emphasis on arts education and local social services. The vast majority of funding (by dollars) goes to a single arts-education intermediary (Arts for Learning Maryland, funded via Community Program Centers LLC), while a smaller but significant stream supports community assistance/charitable services. Grants are few, large, and repeat awards to the same organizations, indicating sustained partnerships rather than broad, one-off giving.
Highly concentrated: very few, large grants with repeats to the same organizations; dominant funding to a single arts-education intermediary with smaller secondary support for local social services.
Morton & Sophia Macht Foundation Inc’s recent giving is anchored by a single arts-education partnership in Baltimore: Arts for Learning Maryland, funded through Community Program Centers LLC, received the foundation’s three largest grants across 2023, 2024, and 2025. That recurring pattern shows a funder that works through sustained relationships rather than a wide spread of small awards. Alongside that core support, the foundation continues to back Baltimore-area community assistance, education, and charitable organizations, including Community Assistance Network, University of Maryland Foundation - Shriver Peaceworks, and YMCA of Central Maryland. The recent-grants record also includes smaller gifts to schools, churches, youth sports, medical, preservation, and civic organizations, suggesting a local portfolio that mixes major operating support with narrower community grants. Most awards are concentrated in Baltimore, with one-off gifts reaching other Maryland locations as well. The overall shape of the giving is straightforward: local, recurring, and centered on a few named partners that appear year after year in the grant list.
Arts education is the clearest theme in the foundation’s recent record. It gave $507,077 in 2025 to Arts for Learning Maryland, funded through Community Program Centers LLC, and made the same intermediary-supported award in 2024 and 2023 as well. Community assistance is another steady line of giving: Community Assistance Network received $106,890 in 2023, $45,000 in 2024, and $79,259 in 2025, all in Baltimore. Education-focused grants also reached University of Maryland Foundation - Shriver Peaceworks, including $59,150 in 2025, $16,500 in 2024, $33,000 in 2023, plus separate support for Shriver Peaceworks - Summer Camp. Smaller education and youth grants went to YMCA of Central Maryland, Moravia Park Elementary School, and Archbishop Curley High School.
Typical grants are small at the lower end and much larger at the top, with a p25 of $250, a median of $500, and a p75 of $6,500. The distribution is highly concentrated: the same organizations recur across multiple years, especially in arts education and community assistance, which points to ongoing partnerships rather than one-time awards. The foundation is a grantmaker, not an individual-giving vehicle, and it does not make program-related investments. Recent grants show a mix of major awards and many modest gifts, but the common pattern is repeat support to familiar Baltimore-area recipients.
