Annual Grant Program — Environmental Initiatives

Who can apply: Supports nonprofit organizations and projects throughout Maine that align with one or more program areas. New applicants or organizations that have not received a grant in the last 3 years should contact the Trust before applying. Organizations that received grants in each of the last two years must take a one-year hiatus before reapplying.

Deadline: Applications are accepted once per year, with the portal open from July 1 to October 1 and closing at midnight on October 1. The site also notes the 2026 application will be live by June 1.

Annual Grant Program — Arts, Culture & Historic Preservation

Who can apply: Nonprofit organizations and projects located in Maine that align with the program area. Organizations that have received grants two years in a row are asked to take a year off before reapplying. New applicants or organizations not funded in the last 3 years should contact the Trust before applying (policy varies by year).

Deadline: Applications accepted once per year. Portal open June 1 to October 1 (closes at midnight Oct 1).

General Annual Grants (operating or project support across program areas)

Who can apply: Supports nonprofit organizations and projects throughout Maine that align with one or more program areas. New applicants or organizations that have not received a grant in the last 3 years are asked to contact the Trust before applying. Organizations receiving grants in each of the last two years must take a one-year hiatus before reapplying. The Trust generally does not fund endowments, annual campaigns, internships, scholarships, out-of-Maine national/regional organizations unless the project is entirely within Maine, primarily social service providers unless the request emphasizes arts/culture/environment with dedicated staffing or partnership, trade schools or school districts, and summer-only festivals or artist residencies unless tied to year-round community programming.

Deadline: Applications are accepted annually from June 1 to October 1; the portal closes at midnight on October 1.

Morton-Kelly Annual Grant Program (Arts, Culture & Historic Preservation; Environmental Initiatives)

Who can apply: Applicants must be nonprofit organizations or nonprofit-led projects throughout Maine that align with at least one Trust program area. New applicants and organizations that have not received a grant in the last three years must contact the Trust before applying. Organizations that received grants in each of the last two consecutive years must take a one-year hiatus before applying. The Trust typically does not fund endowments or annual campaigns, internships or scholarships, national or regional organizations based outside Maine except for projects conducted entirely in Maine, primarily social-service organizations without a strong arts, culture, or environmental component, trade schools, school districts, summer-only festivals, or artist residencies unless tied to year-round community programming.
