Minnesota Veterans Assistance Fund (MVAF)
Who can apply: Applicants must be Minnesota residents. Veterans must have served at least one day of active duty since December 7, 1941 and be honorably discharged or still serving, with proof such as a DD-214 or VA verification. Eligible surviving minor children must be unmarried and 17 or younger and may include stepchildren, grandchildren, adopted children, or children legally in custody. American Legion membership is not required. Applications must originate with and be completed by a local American Legion Post member; applications cannot be sent through a county CVSO. Grants do not generally cover past debts, insurance, internet, cable, legal fees, completed vehicle repairs, credit card balances, or other nonessential expenses.
Deadline: No fixed deadline stated; applications are accepted as assistance is needed. Applicants may not reapply within 30 days of the last payment.
