Medal of Honor Grave Marker Program
Who can apply: Funding is available for verified Medal of Honor recipients’ gravesites when the site is ineligible for a VA-funded marker and local funding is unavailable. Applicants may include recipients’ next of kin, researchers, or others pursuing funding who follow the program procedures. The cemetery or burial-location owner must approve the marker, and family consent is required when applicable. The program does not fund sites eligible for VA markers, cases opposed by family or the burial-location owner, movement or reburial of remains, or duplicate memorialization where the recipient is already suitably memorialized.
Deadline: Applications are subject to the program’s annual budget. If requests exceed available funds, applications may be held until the next fiscal year. No fixed submission deadline is stated.
