The Marcus Anderson Family Foundation concentrates its giving on local community institutions in northern Idaho, prioritizing youth services, K–12 school support, and small-town arts/culture. Grants are sizable and targeted—supporting a regional youth ranch, a county school booster organization, and the preservation/operation of a historic movie theater—suggesting a focus on strengthening community life and opportunities for young people in Bonner County and surrounding areas.
Concentrated, local-focused giving: a small number of relatively large grants (one dominant award plus two other major gifts) directed to community institutions rather than many small donations; appears opportunistic and project/program-focused rather than widely diversified.
A single grant to Living Water Youth Ranch stands out in the Marcus Anderson Family Foundation’s recent giving: $409,513 for program support in 2025. That award is more than four times the next-largest grant in the current list and reflects a pattern of concentrated support for organizations working with young people in North Idaho. The foundation also backed Bonner County School Booster Club with $170,000, signaling substantial support for K–12 extracurricular and athletic life in the region. Another notable grant went to The Rex Theater Foundation for $55,000, showing that the portfolio reaches beyond youth services into local cultural infrastructure as well. Across the recent grants list, the foundation’s work is highly targeted and program-based. Grants are directed to community institutions rather than individuals, and the recipients are mostly small-town organizations in northern Idaho and nearby places in the inland Northwest. The named programs and grantees point to a funder that invests in youth development, school-related support, faith-based organizations, and local cultural preservation through restricted, short-term awards.
Youth services are a central theme. The foundation gave $409,513 to Living Water Youth Ranch for program support, fitting its emphasis on residential and outdoor youth programs and faith-based youth ranches in North Idaho. School-related support is another clear area: Bonner County School Booster Club received $170,000 for program support, and West Bonner County School Dist #83 received $2,000. The arts and community-culture side of the portfolio appears in support for The Rex Theater Foundation, which received $55,000 for program support to preserve and operate a historic theater. The foundation also funded Nami Far North Inc with $50,000 and Heart of the City Church with $28,002, showing that its grantmaking extends to therapeutic and faith-based community organizations. Smaller awards to House of the Lord Christian Academy and Logikos Ministries reinforce that pattern.
The recent grants show a wide spread in award size, from $1,150 at the low end to $409,513 at the high end, with a median grant of about $10,000 and a third-quartile value around $28,002. Every listed award is marked program support, which points to restricted, project-linked funding rather than general, open-ended operating support. The foundation is private and self-funded, and it does not fund individuals. In the current 2025 list, the same grantee names do not repeat, so the visible pattern is one-off annual support to a range of organizations rather than multiple grants to the same recipient in the same year. The active programs are open to unsolicited submissions.
