The foundation concentrates its giving in a small number of relatively large grants, primarily supporting higher education and cultural/historic preservation. It has made repeat, substantial gifts to Syracuse University while also funding local heritage preservation and nonprofit fundraising/technology. The mix suggests interest in institutional academic support plus place-based cultural projects rather than broad, diversified grantmaking.
Concentrated giving: few, relatively large grants with at least one repeat beneficiary (Syracuse University); limited number of distinct grantees across education and cultural preservation.
Louis F & Virginia C Bantle Charitable Foundation Inc. shows a clear pattern of repeat, relatively large general-support gifts to institutions rather than broad program-by-program funding. Syracuse University stands out as a recurring anchor, with grants of $60,000 in 2023, $50,000 in 2024, and $20,000 in 2025. Alongside that higher-education support, the foundation has backed preservation work such as Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society in Rowayton, Connecticut, and has also funded nonprofit infrastructure through Givergy in New York. The recent record suggests a funder that favors established organizations, often with unrestricted support, and returns to selected grantees across multiple years. Its grant list also includes charitable, civic, and service organizations such as The Buoniconti Fund to Cure PA, St Jude, Family Centers Inc, and Greenwich Town Party. That mix points to a portfolio centered on institutional support, local heritage, and community-serving nonprofits rather than a single narrow issue area.
Higher education is a prominent part of the foundation’s giving. Syracuse University received $60,000 in 2023, $50,000 in 2024, and $20,000 in 2025, all labeled general support. The foundation also made a $20,000 general-support grant in 2025 to Maxwell School, adding another academic institution to the pattern. In historic and civic preservation, it gave $38,508 in 2024 and $11,503 in 2025 to Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society for general support, plus $10,400 in 2024 to Greenwich Point Conservancy. Community-serving organizations also appear in the record: Family Centers Inc received $19,000 in 2025 for general support and $13,000 in 2023 for community projects. In the nonprofit infrastructure space, Givergy received $36,875 in 2025 for general support.
Typical grants cluster around modest-to-mid-sized awards: p25 is $1,498, median is $5,000, and p75 is $8,500. The recent file also shows a handful of much larger gifts, which concentrate the foundation’s annual dollars. Several grantees recur across multiple years, including Syracuse University, The Buoniconti Fund to Cure PA, Central Park Conservancy, Make a Wish, and Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society. The foundation is classified as a regular funder, funds organizations rather than individuals, and is not a program-related-investment maker. Most listed awards are tagged general support, with one community-projects grant appearing for Family Centers Inc.
