The Linda Ye and Robin Ren Family Foundation concentrates its philanthropy on higher education by funding family‑named endowed scholarships at selective universities. Grants are large, targeted gifts to create or support the Ying Ye and Yu‑Xiang Ren Endowed Scholarship Fund at institutions that can sustain long‑term student financial aid. The foundation uses few, high‑value grants rather than broad-based giving.
Highly concentrated: very large, restricted gifts (endowments) to a small number of elite institutions with repeat funding to the same university (University of Pennsylvania); emphasis on long‑term, sustainable scholarship support rather than many small grants.
The Linda Ye and Robin Ren Family Foundation’s clearest pattern is repeated support for the Ying Ye and Yu-Xiang Ren Endowed Scholarship Fund, with major gifts to the University of Pennsylvania in 2023 and 2024 and to Stanford University Redwood City in 2023 and 2024. That recurring scholarship work points to a foundation built around long-term student aid rather than broad, dispersed philanthropy. The recent grants also show that the same family-named scholarship theme extends beyond the two largest university recipients, including support for the Ying Ye and Yu-Xiang Ren Family Scholarship Fund at Pursuit of Excellence. Alongside higher-education giving, the foundation has made smaller, purpose-specific grants tied to family farmers, Ukrainian children’s relief, and in-kind COVID-era materials for teachers at No. 2 High School of East China Normal University. Those awards suggest a grantmaker that can shift from endowed scholarship commitments to targeted humanitarian and community support, while keeping the overall portfolio concentrated and intentional. The legal name, annual grant volume, and asset base indicate a modest but active private foundation with a clear naming and legacy pattern in its giving.
Higher education is the foundation’s main line of giving. It awarded $530,000 to the University of Pennsylvania in 2024 and $280,000 to Stanford University Redwood City in 2024, both for the Ying Ye and Yu-Xiang Ren Endowed Scholarship Fund. A second education-related thread appears at Pursuit of Excellence, which received $20,000 in 2023 and $10,000 in 2024 for the Ying Ye and Yu-Xiang Ren Family Scholarship Fund. Outside scholarships, the foundation has supported family farmers with grants of $41,500 in 2023 and $35,000 in 2024 to Stainable Harvest International and Substainable Harvest International. It also made a $10,000 grant to UNICEF USA for Ukrainian children’s relief, showing capacity for humanitarian response.
Typical grants are uneven and skew large: the p25 is $12,500, the median is $38,250, and the p75 is $230,000. The recent record shows repeated awards to the same recipients across multiple years, especially in scholarship funding, which points to a recurring commitment rather than one-time gifts. The foundation is a regular funder and accepts unsolicited applications through online forms in several program areas. It is not a program-related-investment maker, and the structure of the recent grants suggests a private family foundation using targeted, designated grants rather than broad operating support.
