The L & N Andreas Foundation appears to make targeted, high-dollar grants rather than many small awards. In the available record it made a single substantial grant of $390,000 to an organization listed as NCVO, suggesting an interest in supporting nonprofit sector infrastructure or capacity-building rather than broad retail philanthropy. There is no evidence of geographic diversification or multiple programmatic priorities in this dataset.
Highly concentrated giving: one large, single grant rather than multiple smaller awards; appears to favor targeted, possibly strategic support to a single organization rather than distributed funding across many grantees.
A single $390,000 grant to Ncvo in Grand Cayman stands out in the record and suggests that the L & N Andreas Foundation can make large, highly targeted awards when it sees a fit. The rest of its recent giving shows a mix of community support and institutional backing, with multiple six-figure and five-figure grants to organizations in Minnesota and beyond. In Mankato, the foundation has supported Mankato Area Foundation, Greater Mankato United Way, YMCA Mankato, Mankato Youth Place Inc, and YWCA of Mankato, indicating a strong local presence across youth services, community funds, and capital needs. It also funded arts and culture groups such as Msu Foundation for Andreas Theater, Nobo Art District, Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble, and Twin River Council for the Arts. Other grants reached organizations serving families, victims of torture, and educational institutions, including Laurence School and Lynn University. The mix points to a foundation that combines local commitments with selected support for nonprofits and community institutions at a broader scale.
The foundation supports a mix of community development, arts, youth, and family-oriented work. In community infrastructure, it gave $50,000 to Mankato Youth Place Inc for its capital campaign fund, and $110,000 to Mankato Area Foundation for its general fund. In arts and culture, it awarded $50,000 to Msu Foundation for Andreas Theater, $45,000 to Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble for general fund support, and $40,000 to Ne Sculpture for general fund support. Youth and family services also appear prominently: $50,000 went to YMCA Mankato for its general fund, $30,000 to Child and Family Advocacy for general fund support, and $25,000 to Vine Faith in Action for its capital fund. The record also includes $40,000 to Laurence School and $27,500 to Lynn University, showing support for education-related institutions as well.
Typical awards sit at $5,000 at the 25th percentile, $10,000 at the median, and $20,000 at the 75th percentile, but the recent record also includes much larger, targeted gifts. The pattern suggests a foundation that mixes routine mid-sized support with occasional outsized grants. Recipients appear across multiple years, including YWCA of Mankato, Vine Faith in Action, Urban Ventures Foundation, and Greater Twin Cities United Way, which points to repeat relationships rather than one-time-only giving. The foundation is not known here as a program-dominated grantmaker; instead, the data shows general fund, capital, and designated-purpose support. The latest 990 year on file is 2025, and the foundation also funds individuals.
