The Klock Kingston Foundation concentrates its giving on community-level organizations in and around Kingston/Ulster County, NY, funding social services, youth development and local historic preservation. It favors general operating support for neighborhood nonprofits—often making repeat gifts to the same local agencies—rather than national or issue-driven advocacy groups. Its grants are practical and place-based, aimed at sustaining core services for residents (youth programs, emergency social services) and preserving local heritage.
Relatively concentrated, mid-sized grants focused geographically on Kingston/Ulster County. Prefers unrestricted/general operating grants, often repeats funding the same community organizations rather than many one-off or national grantees.
Klock Kingston Foundation Pfdn’s recent giving centers on Kingston and Ulster County organizations that keep local services, youth programs, and historic sites running. In 2024 and 2025, it made repeated general operating grants to community groups such as Peoples Place, United Way of Ulster County, and Friends of Historic Kingston, signaling a preference for core support rather than project-only funding. The foundation also backed youth-serving institutions across the region, including Boys & Girls Club of Kingston and Boys and Girls Club of Ulster County, alongside related local nonprofits working in social services and community life. Historic preservation is another clear thread, with support for organizations tied to Kingston’s heritage and the surrounding Hudson Valley. The overall pattern is practical and place-based: grants are aimed at maintaining exempt-purpose work, preserving neighborhood institutions, and helping local organizations cover ongoing costs. Across the recent grant list, the same local entities appear more than once, which points to recurring support for a small set of community anchors rather than one-off awards spread widely across unrelated causes.
Social services are a major part of the foundation’s giving. It awarded $55,000 to Peoples Place in Kingston for general operating support, and then followed with another $35,000 grant in 2025 for the same purpose. Community infrastructure is another theme: United Way of Ulster County received $50,000 for general operating support in 2024, indicating support for a local intermediary that helps sustain area nonprofits. Youth development appears consistently as well. Boys & Girls Club of Kingston received $40,000 in 2024 for exempt-purpose work, while Boys and Girls Club of Ulster County received $35,000 in 2025 for general operating support. The foundation also supports local heritage and civic life, including $50,000 to Friends of Historic Kingston in 2024 and $30,000 in 2025 for general operating support, plus grants to churches and neighborhood institutions that serve as part of the local fabric.
Typical awards are modest to mid-sized: the 25th percentile is $5,000, the median is $12,000, and the 75th percentile is $20,000. The recent record shows repeated support to the same organizations across 2024 and 2025, including multiple grants to Peoples Place, Friends of Historic Kingston, Sawyer Automotive Foundation Inc, and Wild Earth. That repeat pattern suggests ongoing relationships rather than one-time funding. The foundation appears to operate as a place-based grantmaker with a preference for general operating support and mission-aligned exempt-purpose funding. The grant list does not show an application process, and it does not fund individuals or program-related investments.
