The Kirwan Family Foundation concentrates on unrestricted general support for faith‑based and youth-serving institutions in Orange County and a small number of international relief partners. Their giving emphasizes Catholic education (both diocesan and independent Catholic high schools), youth mentorship/college‑prep programs, and local healthcare, with several multi-year or repeat gifts to core grantees.
Moderately concentrated: a small portfolio (11 grants, $370k) with the majority of dollars going to a handful of repeat grantees. Grants are typically unrestricted general support rather than project‑restricted, indicating flexible, core support rather than many small, one‑off gifts.
Kirwan Family Foundation Inc. gives mostly unrestricted general support, and its recent awards cluster around Catholic education in Orange County, youth mentorship for underserved students, and local healthcare. The largest recent grant in the file is $62,500 to Cristo Rey High School in Santa Ana for unrestricted general support, followed by repeated support for Hoag Hospital Foundation in Newport Beach across 2023 through 2025. That pattern suggests a funder that backs core operations rather than narrow project funding. Several recipients appear more than once, which points to ongoing relationships rather than one-time gifts. Boys Hope Girls Hope in Irvine received three grants in the recent record, including $37,500 in 2023, $25,000 in 2024, and $20,000 in 2025. Santa Margarita Catholic High School also received multiple unrestricted grants, and Orange Catholic Foundation appears in the list in both 2023 and 2024. Alongside Orange County institutions, the foundation also made a small set of grants to faith-based and education-related organizations outside California, including Lamp for Haiti, Dominican Academy, and Mission De Caridad.
