The Kendrick B Melrose Family Foundation focuses its giving locally in the Twin Cities area, funding direct social services, health care access/expansion, and programs that support people with disabilities and dementia. The foundation favors unrestricted/general operations support and makes several repeat grants to mission-driven nonprofits, concentrating a very large portion of its dollars in a few organizations while also sustaining smaller multi-year commitments.
A single $1.9 million general-operations grant to Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners anchors Kendrick B Melrose Family Foundation’s recent giving and shows how concentrated its support can be. The foundation’s largest awards sit alongside repeated funding for Minnesota nonprofits working in social services, health access, disability support, and memory care. It has also backed location expansion for Park Nicollet Foundation’s East St. Paul effort, tying its grantmaking to place-based service growth rather than broad national giving. Several recipients appear year after year, which suggests a sustained relationship model rather than one-off awards. No Barriers USA, Create A Memory Foundation, and the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter all received multiple grants across 2023 through 2025. The foundation also supported Helping Paws Inc, Giving Voice Initiative, Hill Cities, Minnesota Military Family Foundation, and Good Cities with smaller general-purpose awards. The pattern is local and practical: general operations, general purpose, and expansion support dominate the recent record, with many grants aimed at keeping established organizations functioning and extending their reach in the Twin Cities area.
In emergency and basic-needs services, Kendrick B Melrose Family Foundation gave $1.9 million to Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners for general operations, pointing to a strong preference for unrestricted support in direct service work. In disability and adaptive recreation, it awarded $120,000 to No Barriers USA in 2025 and also funded the organization in 2024 and 2023. Memory care is another recurring thread. Create A Memory Foundation received $115,000 in both 2024 and 2025, while the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter received $71,000 in 2025 after earlier grants of $68,000 and $65,000. The foundation also supported Park Nicollet Foundation with $65,000 in 2025 for the Melrose East St. Paul location expansion, following similar grants in 2024 and 2023. Across these areas, the pattern is steady support for local capacity, services, and site growth.
Grant size skews toward a relatively wide middle: the typical grant is $11,000 at the 25th percentile, $50,000 at the median, and $90,500 at the 75th percentile. That spread reflects a mix of very large anchor awards and many smaller recurring grants. The foundation also shows repetition across years, especially for several Minnesota nonprofits that received support in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Its public profile points to a family foundation structure, and the recent record is dominated by general operations and general-purpose support rather than restricted project funding.
