This Pittsburgh-based trust prioritizes local social justice and direct-service programs that serve vulnerable people, with a strong emphasis on criminal justice reform, pediatric medical transport, and youth development. Grants are targeted and often repeated to the same organizations, suggesting long-term, relationship-based support for a small set of mission-aligned nonprofits. The foundation favors practical, service-oriented interventions (exonerations, transport for sick children, programs for disadvantaged youth) over broad or national initiatives.
Repeated support for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project stands out in the fund’s recent record: $30,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025, plus an additional $20,000 in 2025. That pattern points to a trust that backs long-running work rather than one-off awards. Kathryn J Dinardo Tr Fund C/o Samuel J Pasquarelli Co Truste gives nationally, but its grantmaking is especially active in Pennsylvania, where half of all grants land. The portfolio shows a consistent preference for direct-service organizations that help people facing urgent needs, including wrongful-conviction exoneration, pediatric transportation, youth development, disability support, and food assistance. The trust also appears to favor organizations with clearly defined services. Children’s Flight of Hope received $24,200 in 2023, $22,800 in 2024, and $20,000 in 2025 for transportation services, while LaRosa Youth Development Foundation received $20,000 in 2023 and 2024 and $25,000 in 2025 for programs for disadvantaged youth. Other awards support local Pittsburgh institutions and national service providers, suggesting a mix of neighborhood-based giving and select national grants tied to concrete community services.
A major theme is criminal justice reform. The Pennsylvania Innocence Project received recurring support for exoneration work, with grants of $30,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025, plus $20,000 in 2025. Transportation access is another clear focus. Children’s Flight of Hope in Raleigh, North Carolina received $24,200 in 2023, $22,800 in 2024, and $20,000 in 2025 for transportation services, indicating sustained backing for families who need travel support tied to care. The fund also supports youth development and inclusion. LaRosa Youth Development Foundation in McKeesport received $20,000 in 2023 and 2024 and $25,000 in 2025 for programs for disadvantaged youth. Elsewhere, Miracle League of the South Hills received $10,000 in 2023 and 2024 and another $10,000 in 2025 for sports for physically challenged youth.
The typical grant size is modest: the 25th percentile is $5,000, the median is $7,500, and the 75th percentile is $10,000. That distribution fits a trust making many targeted awards rather than a few very large ones. Recipients often appear across multiple years, including several repeat grants to the same organizations, which suggests ongoing relationship-based support. The fund is structured as a trust, not a program-related investment vehicle, and it does not fund individuals.
