Kansas Health Foundation

To provide dollar for dollar matching funds to the Kansas Food Bank in support of their work to increase the capacity of 31 partner agencies in rural, wesuitern Kansas communities.

To provide funding in support of universal access to free school meals for all students, regardless of family income, by increasing school district participation in Community Eligibility Provisions (CEP) and tailoring support to each district's needs.

To provide funding in support of Double Up Food Bucks Heartland program, a healthy food incentive program for people who receive SNAP benefits offered at grocery stores, farmers markets, farm stands and mobile markets in Kansas and Missouri. The incentive encourages customers paying with SNAP to purchase more fresh fruits and vegetables.

To provide funding in support of proposals submitted to K-State Research and Extension that align with the principles of the Next Gen K-State strategic plan, advance the work of Hunger Free Kansas, and enhance collaboration with both university and community partners with an overall goal to elevate the role of extension agents in food sysuitems work.

To provide funding in support of establishment of a Harvest Hub, a sustainable, practical, and physical regional food sysuitem which includes production, processing, and distribution of food. This sysuitem will target economic development by expanding small businesses with new revenue streams and support entrepreneurs with new opportunities. Community engagement will be targeted by bringing together all stakeholders to create a common agenda, shared measurements, mutually reinforcing activities, and continuous communication.

To provide funding to support expansion of the Healthy Corner Store Program, which provides access to fresh, affordable, high-quality produce in Wyandotte County. This program targets those struggling with mobility issues, lack of transportation, and those living in areas with limited grocery options. Funding will cover costs of establishing new stores, operations costs, food costs, truck deliveries, drivers, and a dedicated Kansas-specific Healthy Corner Store Liaison who will work exclusively on onboarding new stores, building community awareness, and promoting produce shopping adoption.

To provide funding in support of a landscape data analysis of the components of Economic Hardship that will help the Foundation network understand and mobilize around the Economic Hardship Index. Funding will also support design and facilitation of data walks that will help the Foundation network understand various interventions that will help Kansans make progress towards improving economic hardship within the state.
