About John Henry Eldred Jr Foundation
Repeated support for Toledo-area nonprofits stands out in the John Henry Eldred Jr Foundation’s recent giving, with several organizations receiving grants in both 2023 and 2024. YWCA in Toledo received $100,000 in each year, and Partners in Education received $56,000 in 2023 and another $56,000 in 2024. That pattern points to a funder that backs ongoing work rather than isolated projects. The foundation’s grantmaking reaches beyond one cause area, but the recurring thread is support for organizations serving families, children, housing stability, food access, and education in Northwest Ohio. The recent grants list also shows the foundation funding a mix of community-serving institutions and intermediary nonprofits, including Toledo School of the Arts, Cherry Street Mission, Compassion Health Toledo, Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio. Smaller awards sit alongside larger ones, suggesting a portfolio that includes both sustained operating support and targeted organizational support. Across the data provided, the foundation appears closely connected to Northwest Ohio while also making grants nationally through its rural public library program.

How John Henry Eldred Jr Foundation Gives
Typical grants are modest: the 25th percentile is $3,000, the median is $5,000, and the 75th percentile is also $5,000. That distribution suggests many awards cluster at the same small size, even though the recent grants list includes larger operating and mission-support grants. Several recipients appear across multiple years, including YWCA, Partners in Education, Cherry Street Mission, Leading Families Home, Advocating Opportunity, and So All May Eat, which indicates recurring support for some organizations. The foundation uses both unsolicited and invitation-only programs.
