About Joanie C Bernard Foundation
The Joanie C Bernard Foundation directs almost all of its funding to animal welfare causes, with a clear emphasis on programs that reduce pet overpopulation and improve conditions for stray and community animals. Grants are concentrated in Ohio and nearby regions and support operational/project needs of local humane societies, spay/neuter clinics, and community cat networks. A small portion of funding has gone to a regional development organization, but the foundation’s identity is strongly animal-focused.

About Joanie C Bernard Foundation
Joanie C Bernard Foundation’s grantmaking centers on feline welfare, especially spay/neuter, community cat services, fostering, adoption, and related education. The pattern is visible in recurring support for Cincinnati-based United Coalition for Animals, which received $714,000 in 2025 after a $600,000 grant in 2024, and Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay Neuter Clinic Inc, which received $500,000 in 2025 after a $255,000 grant in 2024. The foundation also backs local humane systems and stray-animal programs through larger project and operating grants to shelter and clinic partners. The portfolio shows a mix of general support and restricted project funding, with grants that can be substantial enough to shape local capacity. It funds both direct animal-care service providers and organizations working on education, outreach, and program expansion. Recent awards include support for Cincinnati Animal Care, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (sicsa), and Hamilton County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. These grants point to a funder that prioritizes practical services for cats and the organizations that deliver them.
What Joanie C Bernard Foundation Funds
A central theme is spay/neuter work. The foundation gave $500,000 to Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay Neuter Clinic Inc for general operating support and $200,000 to Spay-neuter Services Inc for project/program support, reflecting sustained investment in clinic-based capacity. Another major thread is shelter and humane society support. Humane Society of Greater Dayton received $350,000 for project/program support in 2024 and $200,000 for project/program funds in 2025, while Cincinnati Animal Care was awarded $214,000 for general operating support in 2024 and $200,000 in 2025. Community cat and rescue services also appear repeatedly. Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (sicsa) received $300,000 in 2025 and $211,000 in 2024, both for project/program support. The foundation’s stated grant programs likewise emphasize feline welfare, fostering, adoption, and community cat services.
