The Israelson Family Foundation concentrates its support on local Baltimore-area institutions with an emphasis on health care infrastructure and research, Jewish congregational/community needs, and K–12 school facilities. Grants are targeted and relatively large, funding tangible capital or program-related projects (clinic equipment, playgrounds, courtyards, and cancer research). The foundation repeatedly funds a small set of familiar organizations, suggesting a preference for sustained relationships with established local nonprofits.
A $130,000 grant to Sinai Hospital for an EYESI machine is the largest recent award on record for Israelson Family Foundation Inc, and it captures the foundation’s practical approach: funding specific equipment, research projects, and facility improvements rather than broad unrestricted support. Across its recent grants, the foundation repeatedly backs Baltimore-area health institutions, especially Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, while also supporting Jewish community organizations and school campus projects in South Florida. The grant list shows a pattern of targeted commitments to clinical capacity, from an autorefractor and regional medical center support to scholarships tied to a hospital. In parallel, the foundation funds university-linked esophageal cancer research and other biomedical work, including a separate research grant to Kennedy Krieger Foundation. Its community-oriented giving extends beyond medicine to Temple Sinai and The Seed School of Miami, where awards have supported playgrounds, music events, courtyards, operations, and a capital campaign. The mix of grantees suggests a foundation that favors established institutions and projects with a defined use of funds.
Medical research is a recurring theme. In 2025, Israelson Family Foundation Inc gave $40,000 to Johns Hopkins University for esophageal cancer research, after earlier grants of $50,000 in 2023 and $25,000 in 2024 for the same purpose. It also awarded $25,000 to Kennedy Krieger Foundation in 2023 for osteogenesis imperfecta research. Health-care infrastructure is another clear line of support: Sinai Hospital received $40,000 for the Abrams Clinic autorefractor, $20,000 for the Dr. Paul Gurbel research projects, and $20,000 for the GW Regional Medical Center. The foundation also funds Jewish community programming and facilities, including $35,000 to Temple Sinai for music events and $30,000 for a playground. School-related giving appears in Miami, where The Seed School of Miami received $40,000 for a courtyard and $10,000 for operations.
Typical grants cluster in the mid five figures: p25 is $5,400, median is $15,000, and p75 is $25,000. Recent awards also show a few larger outliers, including a $130,000 equipment grant and several $40,000 commitments. The same organizations appear across multiple years, especially Sinai Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, Temple Sinai, and The Seed School of Miami, which points to repeat support rather than one-time funding. The foundation is a family foundation, and it funds individuals as well as institutions. The recent record does not show a public application process in the grant data provided.
