Who can apply: Eligible applicants are qualified public entities, churches, or nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. The Foundation rarely funds public entities or churches because of its focus on early childhood education. Applicants must provide an IRS determination letter showing public charity status under Section 501(c)(3), dated within the last five years. Private foundations, foreign organizations, individuals, disqualified supporting organizations, and Type III 509(a)(3) non-functionally integrated supporting organizations are not eligible. Unsolicited requests are restricted to organizations based in Dallas County; organizations outside the Greater Dallas area should obtain prior approval before applying. Organizations may submit only one application within a 12-month period.
Deadline: Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year. Proposals are generally reviewed at three Trustee meetings annually, usually in late spring/summer, late summer, and late November to early December. Applicants are encouraged to apply at least five months before funding is needed.
