The Franklin St Giving Tree Foundation concentrates large, targeted gifts to a small set of repeat recipients, with a strong regional focus around Doylestown/Greater Philadelphia. Its portfolio blends health care (community hospitals and behavioral health), Catholic and faith-based leadership and elder care, and selective higher-education support. The foundation favors organizational capacity and program support rather than many small awards, often making multiple grants to the same institutions.
A $785,065 grant to Little Sisters of the Poor/catholic Fdn stands out in the Franklin St Giving Tree Foundation’s recent record and points to the way this funder concentrates large awards on a small set of aligned institutions. The foundation backs elder care, community health, Catholic leadership, seminary support, Hispanic ministry, mental health and addiction services, and selected educational institutions. It does so with sizable gifts that often repeat across years, suggesting ongoing institutional support rather than one-time project funding. Recent awards show a pattern of backing organizations that serve care, training, and capacity needs. Doylestown Health Foundation received multiple large grants for community healthcare, while Catholic Leadership Institute received repeated support for training church leaders. The foundation also funded Thomas Jefferson Univ, Washington & Jefferson College, and Penn State University for educational grants, alongside mission-oriented support for faith-based organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area. Together, these grants show a funder that favors targeted, relationship-based giving to organizations with a clear operational role in their communities.
Elder care is one of the clearest themes in the Franklin St Giving Tree Foundation’s portfolio. It gave $510,000 in 2024 and $500,000 in 2023 to Little Sisters of the Poor/catholic Fdn in Philadelphia for care for the elderly, and another $500,000 in 2023 to The Catholic Fdn of Greater Phila for the same purpose. Community healthcare is another recurring area. Doylestown Health Foundation received $646,000 in 2023, then $500,000 in 2024 and $500,000 in 2025, all for community healthcare in Doylestown. The foundation also supports leadership and education tied to Catholic institutions. Catholic Leadership Institute in Malvern received $500,000 in 2023, $500,000 in 2024, and $500,000 in 2025 for training church leaders. In higher education, Thomas Jefferson Univ received grants of $500,000 in 2023, $500,000 in 2024, and $500,000 in 2025 for educational support.
Typical grant size is large: p25 is $86,666, median is $400,000, and p75 is $500,000. The pattern is concentrated rather than diffuse, with several recipients appearing across multiple years and often at the same award level, which signals recurring support. The foundation is classified as a regular funder and makes grants to individuals as well as organizations. Its recent grants are overwhelmingly local, and the giving profile suggests direct operating, program, or capacity support rather than small exploratory awards.
