The Bergstrom Foundation concentrates its giving on international reproductive health, family planning and related maternal/child health programs, primarily in Latin America and East Africa. It funds both service delivery organizations and philanthropic intermediaries, favoring large, multi-grant commitments to a small set of operating and fiscal-sponsor partners that implement programs overseas.
The Erik E and Edith H Bergstrom Foundation a Charitable Trust stands out for sustained international reproductive health funding delivered through a small set of repeat partners. Its largest recent grant in the data is a 2025 award of $2,772,942 to International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region for work in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Tanzania, Uganda, and Venezuela. The same grantee appears in 2023 and 2024 as well, with similarly large awards tied to the same cross-regional program structure. The foundation’s recent giving also shows substantial support for service-delivery organizations and philanthropic intermediaries that implement programs across Latin America and East Africa. Msi-us received major grants in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for work in Uganda, Kenya, Bolivia, Malawi, and Uganda again; Philanthropic Ventures Foundation received large awards for reproductive health work spanning Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela, Haiti, and the United States. These grants suggest a funder that favors multi-country program support rather than isolated local projects. Beyond reproductive health and family planning, the recent record includes child welfare and development work in East Africa, along with scholarship and educational support, conservation, curriculum development, and local history preservation.
