About Edward & Dorothy Kendall Foundation
The Edward & Dorothy Kendall Foundation’s most distinctive pattern is its concentrated support for land preservation in South Carolina, with repeated large grants to the Edisto Island Open Land Trust and the Congaree Land Trust. Those gifts show a preference for place-based conservation tied to coastal and riverine landscapes, rather than broad, multi-state philanthropy. The foundation also supports a smaller set of community institutions, including churches, a scholarship fund, and local charities in Columbia, Greenville, Charleston, and nearby towns. Across the recent grants list, the foundation’s conservation funding stands out for both size and repetition. Edisto Island Open Land Trust appears multiple times, including awards of $163,373 in 2024 and $133,244 in 2025, along with another grant of $75,000 in 2023. Congaree Land Trust received $89,037 in 2023. Outside land preservation, the foundation has backed religious congregations, historical preservation work, and outreach serving people experiencing homelessness, indicating a local giving pattern that extends beyond environmental priorities into community and heritage support.
