The Curusis Family Charitable Foundation focuses its giving on a small number of relatively large, targeted grants across animal welfare, faith-based institutions, family support services, youth programs, and cultural organizations. Grants are often concentrated (several six-figure gifts) and include repeat support to favored recipients, suggesting long-standing relationships rather than broad, one-off funding. Although the foundation is based in Raleigh, NC, its grantees indicate a strong geographic interest in California communities (including San Francisco-area and Palm Springs).
Concentrated giving with a small portfolio of mid-to-large unrestricted or program support grants; multiple repeat grants to the same organizations; geographically focused on specific California communities despite a Raleigh-based office.
Curusis Family Charitable Foundation C/o First-citizens Bank & Trust Company makes relatively large, targeted general operating grants to a small set of organizations, with several recipients appearing across multiple years. Its recent gifts show a pattern of support for animal welfare, faith-based institutions, family support services, youth programs, and cultural organizations, often at the same charity more than once. One example is Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, which received grants of $75,000 in 2023 and 2024 and $25,000 in 2025. Another recurring recipient is Greek Orthodox Church of Holy Cross in Belmont, which received $75,000 in 2024, $50,000 in 2023, and $20,000 in 2025. The foundation also backed Family House Inc in San Francisco with $100,000 in 2023, a grant that sits alongside continued support for other California-based groups. Its grant list suggests preference for organizations with ongoing operating needs rather than one-time project funding, and for institutions that serve specific communities or preserve local cultural life.
In animal welfare, the foundation supported Soft Paws Rescue and Rehabilitation in Windsor with $10,000 in 2023, alongside repeated support for Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. For family support services, Family House Inc in San Francisco received $100,000 in 2023 and $25,000 in 2024 for general operating support. Youth development appears through Boys and Girls Clubs of Tracy, which received $75,000 in 2025. Cultural and heritage support is also present: the Palm Springs Air Museum received $50,000 in 2025, and the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation received $50,000 in 2025. Across these areas, the grants are directed to organizational operations rather than restricted projects.
Typical grants cluster tightly around a small set of sizes: p25 is $17,500, median is $25,000, and p75 is $25,000. That pattern fits a portfolio built around standard operating grants, with some larger awards reserved for a few recipients. Repeated awards across 2023, 2024, and 2025 show ongoing relationships rather than one-off giving. The foundation is classified as a regular funder, not a DAF, and it does not fund individuals or make program-related investments.
