The Conine Family Foundation makes a small number of very large, place-focused gifts primarily in Greater Boston and to a few high-profile institutions. Their support centers on major hospital philanthropy, university STEM/infrastructure projects, and stewardship of public waterfronts and parks, with some giving routed through donor-advised/charitable intermediaries. Grants tend to be unrestricted or ‘general purpose,’ indicating flexible support for institutional priorities.
The Conine Family Foundation C/o Paul Mccoy Family Office Svcs has made repeated seven-figure general-purpose grants to Massachusetts General Hospital, with $3,000,000 awarded in both 2023 and 2024. That pattern places major hospital philanthropy at the center of the foundation’s recent giving, alongside substantial support for Boston civic and environmental institutions. The foundation also directed $1,100,000 to the Esplanade Association in 2024 and $565,000 in 2023, showing a sustained relationship with public-space stewardship in Boston. Its portfolio also includes a $1,000,000 grant to Cornell University in 2024 for the Computing and Information Science Building, and another $1,000,000 in 2023 for the same project, which points to large capital support in higher education. Recent grants further include awards to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Metro Future Inc, and Harvard College, indicating a mix of hospital, university, conservation, and urban-betterment funding. The foundation’s giving is place-focused and concentrated in the Northeast, with most grants landing in Massachusetts.
Hospital philanthropy is a clear priority. The foundation gave $3,000,000 in 2024 to Massachusetts General Hospital, and it matched that amount in 2023 with another general-purpose grant to the same institution. In higher education, it supported Cornell University with $1,000,000 in 2024 for the Computing and Information Science Building, following a $1,000,000 grant in 2023 for the same purpose. Public-space and conservation work also appears prominently: the Commonwealth of Massachusetts received $565,000 in 2023 and $409,000 in 2024 for the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Transportation and outdoor recreation are present as well, including $80,000 to Livable Street Transportation for support of Emerald Network.
Grant size is skewed toward large gifts: the typical grant sits at $25,000 at the 25th percentile, $50,000 at the median, and $100,000 at the 75th percentile. The recent record also shows recurring support, with several organizations appearing across multiple years, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Cornell University, the Esplanade Association, Metro Future Inc, Harvard College, Bikes Not Bombs Inc, Vermont Huts Ltd, New England Mountain Bike, and International Mountain Bicycling Association. The foundation is classified as a regular funder, not an individual-giving vehicle, and it does not make program-related investments. Many awards are described as general purpose, with some designated capital or project support.
