About Carl B & Florence E King Foundation
The Carl B & Florence E King Foundation appears to focus on practical, community-level solutions that stabilize vulnerable families and strengthen local nonprofit infrastructure, especially in Texas and Arkansas. A large share of its giving supports housing and homelessness response, eviction defense, food security, child and family wellbeing, and services for veterans, often through operating, capacity-building, or transitional support rather than one-time project grants. It also shows a consistent interest in helping organizations scale or become sustainable, including coalitions, nonprofit intermediaries, and institutions serving rural communities.

The foundation leans toward operating, capacity-building, and transitional support for organizations in growth or transition phases, with a mix of mid-sized grants and a few larger anchor commitments.
About Carl B & Florence E King Foundation
The Carl B & Florence E King Foundation stands out for its very large, multi-recipient awards: its three biggest recent grants were each directed to "Various" recipients in Dallas, with amounts of $3,807,606 in 2023, $3,744,365 in 2025, and $3,363,400 in 2024. That pattern points to a funder that moves substantial resources through pooled distributions rather than through many small, named awards. The foundation’s grantmaking also shows a clear local orientation, with all recorded recipient grants landing in Texas. Beyond the pooled awards visible in the recent grants list, the foundation uses structured programs that support nonprofit work in North Texas, West Texas, and selected Arkansas counties. Those programs cover community needs such as aging population services, arts, culture, and history, children and youth, economic mobility, education, rural development, nonprofit capacity, veterans and military families services, youth and adult homelessness, and collaborative multi-agency initiatives. The result is a grantmaker that appears to use both broad, flexible distributions and targeted initiatives to support organizations across a defined regional footprint.
What Carl B & Florence E King Foundation Funds
In community-focused work, the foundation supports nonprofit organizations serving eligible counties in Arkansas, North Texas, and West Texas, with program priorities that include aging population services, arts, culture, and history, children and youth, economic mobility, and education. Its Initiative Grants add a more strategic layer, backing rural projects such as broadband, economic development, healthcare access, and nonprofit capacity. The same program also names veterans and military families services, youth and adult homelessness, and collaborative multi-agency initiatives as priorities. These categories show a grantmaker that uses program design to direct funding toward a mix of social services, place-based development, and organizational strengthening. The recent grants list also reflects broad, multi-beneficiary awards in Dallas, reinforcing the foundation’s preference for flexible support across multiple recipients.
