The Camila Koenig Foundation makes a small number of relatively large grants focused on medical research (notably kidney disease) alongside international policy and Jewish communal causes. Grants tend to be unrestricted or for general support, indicating trust in grantee operations rather than project-restricted funding. The mix suggests a donor with a particular interest in kidney research plus engagement with Latin American policy and Zionist/Jewish women's programming.
Concentrated giving: few (4) relatively large grants making up total giving, favoring repeat-style beneficiaries in medical research and one-off support to policy and communal organizations; grants are predominantly unrestricted/general support.
Camila Koenig Foundation’s largest recent grant went to Campese Kidney Research (UKRO) for $70,000, and kidney research is one of the clearest through lines in its giving. The foundation also supports university-affiliated biomedical research, including a $60,000 unrestricted general grant to University Kidney Research Organization and a pair of Cedars-Sinai grants tied to hepatology and leadership support. Beyond medicine, its recent grants show a consistent interest in Latin American policy work and Jewish communal organizations, with awards to Washington Office on Latin America and Women’s International Zionist Organization. The grant list points to a funder that makes a small number of comparatively large awards, often as unrestricted general support or other flexible institutional support. That pattern appears across research institutions, advocacy groups, cultural organizations, and community organizations. The result is a grant portfolio that mixes scientific research funding with support for organizations working in policy, Jewish communal life, and Hispanic/Latino civic engagement.
Medical research is the foundation’s most visible focus. In 2025, it gave $70,000 to Campese Kidney Research (UKRO), and in 2024 it made a $60,000 unrestricted general grant to University Kidney Research Organization. Biomedical support also extends to clinical leadership: Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation received $20,000 in 2024 for support of head of and another $20,000 in 2025 for support of hepatology. Outside health research, the foundation funded advocacy and civic organizations. Washington Office on Latin America received $50,000 in 2024 for unrestricted general support and another $5,000 in 2025. It also backed Women’s International Zionist Organization with $30,000 in 2024 and $5,000 in 2025, both unrestricted general grants. Additional recent support went to Hispanics in Philanthropy and Poderistas Community Fund, each at $15,000 in 2025.
Typical awards are relatively large: the grant-size distribution shows a $15,000 p25, $20,000 median, and $40,000 p75. The recent record suggests a small set of grants rather than many smaller awards. Several recipients appear more than once across 2024 and 2025, including Washington Office on Latin America, Women’s International Zionist Organization, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation, which points to repeat support rather than one-time gifts only. The foundation is a private grantmaker rather than an individual-giving vehicle, and it does not make program-related investments. Most awards shown are unrestricted general support or other flexible institutional support.
