About Association of Performing Arts Professionals
A defining recent grantmaking pattern for the Association of Performing Arts Professionals is its support for safe, equitable reopening and recovery across the presenting and touring field. In 2023, the organization made multiple $50,000 grants to presenters, venues, universities, and arts organizations working within that recovery theme, showing a clear focus on field-wide stabilization rather than a single local program. That approach fits its broader role serving and strengthening performing arts presenting and touring through professional development, conferences, resources, advocacy, and member services. The grants show attention to both infrastructure and practice. Dance Place in Washington, DC received support for the field’s reopening and recovery, while World Arts West in San Francisco was funded under the same purpose. Other recipients included Queens Theatre in the Park in Corona, New York and Grand Performances in Los Angeles, indicating a mix of urban presenters and community-facing institutions. The foundation also supports leadership and field participation through active programs such as the Emerging Leadership Institute, Leadership Fellows Program, APAP Honors, and showcase opportunities tied to APAP|NYC. Across these efforts, the organization acts as a convener and field builder for performing arts presenters, touring artists, and the venues that host them.
What Association of Performing Arts Professionals Funds
A central cause area is safe public health reopening and recovery for live events. The Association of Performing Arts Professionals gave $50,000 to Miami Dade College for support of the presenting and touring field’s safe equitable reopening and recovery, and it used the same purpose for grants to Ocean County College and the Arab Community Center for Economic & Social Services (access). Another clear theme is venue and touring infrastructure resilience. The foundation awarded $50,000 to Odc Theater in San Francisco and $50,000 to Madison Project Dba the Broad Stage in Santa Monica under the same recovery framework, showing support for organizations that host touring work. It also backs professional development and leadership training through its active programs. The Emerging Leadership Institute serves mid-career arts professionals, while the Leadership Fellows Program and APAP Honors reflect attention to leadership in the performing arts field.
