About 128 Collective Foundation
A defining feature of 128 Collective Foundation’s recent giving is the repeated use of seven-figure grants for climate-focused organizing and communications. In 2023, it gave $1,000,000 to Potential Energy Coalition Inc for climate change communications work and another $1,000,000 to The Sunrise Project Inc for climate finance work. Those awards point to a funder that backs policy-adjacent climate interventions rather than broad charitable programming. The foundation also supports organizations working on systems change, including labor-climate organizing, energy democracy, and public control of energy assets. Its recent grants include support for groups working on climate communications, climate finance, infrastructure, and advocacy around the public ownership of energy. The mix of national policy work and targeted movement-building suggests a preference for projects that can influence rules, institutions, and public narratives. Across the dataset, the foundation makes large, selective grants to organizations operating at the intersection of climate, labor, and public policy, with a clear emphasis on strategic leverage rather than dispersed giving.
What 128 Collective Foundation Funds
Climate finance and market reform are central to the foundation’s portfolio. It gave $1,000,000 to The Sunrise Project Inc for climate finance work and $200,000 to Employ America for work on energy systems and policy. In climate communications, the foundation supported Potential Energy Coalition Inc with $1,000,000 for climate change communications work. It also backed Global Fund for Women Inc with $307,000 for the Champions for Climate program and $258,000 for the Champions for Climate Justice program, showing interest in climate messaging tied to justice framing. On labor and industrial transition, 128 Collective Foundation awarded $250,000 to New Economy Organisers Network for worker-led industrial decarbonization and advocacy, and $490,000 to Ue Research and Education Fund for the Green Locomotives Project. Another strand is public power and education-sector implementation: it gave $300,000 to Undauntedk12 for IRA implementation in public schools and $300,000 to The Hack Foundation for Public Grids.
How 128 Collective Foundation Gives
