About Rhode Island Community Foundation

The Rhode Island Community Foundation’s recent giving is anchored by very large grants to Rhode Island institutions serving basic needs, housing, health, and the arts. Its largest award in the provided record is $5,005,549 to United Way of Rhode Island in Providence, followed by $3,146,865 to the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School in East Providence and $3,009,082 to One Neighborhood Builders in Providence. That mix shows a foundation working across community safety nets and civic life rather than in a single narrow lane. The foundation also uses multi-year support for some organizations. Local Initiatives Support Corporation received several awards tied to housing, including $2,000,000 in 2023 and $1,278,675 in 2025, while Crossroads Rhode Island and Amos House each appear more than once in the recent grants list. Alongside these larger institutional grants, the foundation’s portfolio includes scholarships, nonprofit capacity building, animal welfare, and leadership development programs, all of which fit its role as a community foundation for Rhode Island. Grants in the recent record are overwhelmingly concentrated in Providence-area organizations, with other Rhode Island cities and a small number of out-of-state grantees appearing as exceptions.
