Pinhook Foundation Inc is a Lafayette-area funder that concentrates substantial, flexible support to a small number of local social service and faith-linked institutions. Its giving emphasizes Catholic social services and local charitable infrastructure, with significant gifts to a regional hospital foundation and youth development programs. The foundation’s grants appear directed at meeting basic needs and strengthening community institutions across the Acadiana region.
Concentrated, large-dollar local giving: a small number of sizable grants (some repeat) to a few core organizations, often for general/exempt-purpose support or charitable assistance rather than many small awards.
Pinhook Foundation Inc. centers its giving on basic-needs and charitable-assistance organizations in Acadiana, with one of its clearest signals being a $211,000 grant to the Community Foundation of Acadiana for charitable assistance to the needy. The foundation’s recent grants show a pattern of repeated, substantial support to local institutions that serve vulnerable residents, including Catholic Charities of Acadiana and Lourdes Foundation. Those gifts are paired with funding for youth-serving groups, disaster relief, animal welfare, and Catholic education, but the strongest thread is direct service to people facing hardship. The foundation gave $1,088,211 in annual grants in the latest filing year on record, and its recent awards frequently fall in the five-figure range. Several organizations appear more than once across 2023 and 2024, suggesting ongoing support rather than isolated one-time gifts. Pinhook Foundation Inc. also backs community infrastructure through local intermediaries and health-related philanthropy, including repeat support for regional institutions based in Lafayette. Its grantmaking is local in scope and overwhelmingly concentrated in Louisiana.
In Catholic social services, the foundation gave $160,000 to Catholic Charities of Acadiana in 2024 and $75,000 in 2023, both for exempt-purpose support. It also awarded $11,500 to St Bernard Catholic School in Breaux Bridge in 2024 and $11,300 in 2023, showing support for Catholic-linked community institutions beyond Lafayette itself. For health and hospice services, Pinhook Foundation Inc. gave $103,000 to Lourdes Foundation in 2024 and $83,000 in 2023, both described as contributions to assist with exempt purpose. It also supported Hospice of Acadiana with $20,000 in 2024. Youth and family services are another clear area. The foundation gave $50,000 to Boys Girls Clubacadiana in 2024 and $20,000 in 2023, plus $22,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2024. Smaller grants also went to Christian Youth Theater and First Baptist Christian School.
Typical grant size sits at $5,000 at the 25th percentile, $10,000 at the median, and $25,250 at the 75th percentile, which points to a mix of modest awards and larger institutional gifts. The recent record shows repeat support across years for several recipients, including 2023-to-2024 renewals rather than single appearances. The foundation appears to operate as a private grantmaker rather than a vehicle for individuals or program-related investments. The grant descriptions are generally framed as contributions for exempt purpose or charitable assistance, consistent with discretionary support.
