To harness the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier.
Petco Love Fka the Petco Foundation repeatedly backs animal welfare groups with large, unrestricted grants, and its recent awards show the same partners funded in both 2024 and 2025. The largest grants in the list are seven-figure general-support awards to San Antonio Pets Alive, which received $1,017,188 in each year on file. Other recurring partners include Brandywine Valley Spca, Charleston Animal Society, Jacksonville Humane Society, and Miami-Dade Animal Services, each with substantial general-support funding across both years. That pattern points to a funder centered on lifesaving animal welfare work rather than one-off project financing. The foundation’s active programs reinforce that focus. It funds sheltering and adoptions, free vaccine services, disaster relief for animal welfare groups, shelter pet cancer treatment, and access-to-care efforts such as spay/neuter and trap-neuter-return. It also runs broader grant partnerships for nonprofit organizations doing lifesaving work, with partner due diligence and annual reporting mentioned for those awards. One listed opportunity, Love Stories, supports storytelling around pets changing adopters’ lives and can award up to $100,000. Across the recent grants list, general support is the dominant award type, and the repeat-year pattern suggests ongoing operating relationships with partners across the country.
A central theme is shelter and adoption support. Petco Love Fka the Petco Foundation gives general-support funding to organizations whose work centers on sheltering and adoptions, including Bettertogether Forever in Glendale, California, and Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, California. The foundation also maintains an annual grant cycle for animal welfare organizations and a separate shelter-and-adoption grant path focused on lifesaving operations and capacity. Another major area is preventive care. Through Vaccinated & Loved grants, it funds organizations providing free vaccine services to communities in need. Access to Care adds support for spay and neuter clinics, full-service low-cost providers, and trap-neuter-return programs. A third strand is emergency and medical response. The disaster relief program supports animal welfare organizations affected by disasters, and the Shelter Pet Cancer Treatment program backs partners treating shelter pets for cancer. Recent general-support grants to Dog Is My Copilot in Jackson, Wyoming, and The Mosby Foundation in Staunton, Virginia, sit alongside those program areas.

Typical grant size clusters around $10,000 at the 25th percentile, $15,146 at the median, and $35,000 at the 75th percentile, while the recent list also shows much larger operating awards to established partners. The same organizations appear in both 2024 and 2025, indicating recurring support rather than one-time gifts. The foundation is a regular funder, not a DAF, and it also makes program-related investments. Multiple active programs accept unsolicited applications, including animal welfare, vaccine, disaster relief, shelter pet cancer treatment, access to care, and Love Stories.
Giving is national, and the recipient map is overwhelmingly U.S.-based: 1,606 grants went to U.S. organizations and 4 to Canadian recipients. The top state by grant count is Colorado. Recent grants show repeated awards to organizations in San Antonio, Austin, North Charleston, Jacksonville, Doral, West Chester, Glendale, Kansas City, and Wildomar. Texas recipients account for 11% of grants, but the foundation’s headquarters is in San Antonio rather than the state with the most giving.
It funds animal welfare organizations, especially groups focused on sheltering and adoptions, free vaccine services, disaster relief for animals, shelter pet cancer treatment, and spay/neuter or trap-neuter-return access to care. Its active programs and recent grants both point to lifesaving animal welfare work as the core pattern.

Love Stories is a separate program that funds storytelling around pets changing adopters’ lives.
