MJS Foundation focuses its giving on a small number of large, institutional gifts that support urban anti-poverty work, STEM cultural institutions, major medical research/cancer care, and university-led climate and research initiatives. Grants skew toward capital and general operating support for established nonprofits and higher-education affiliates, often delivered as multi-part pledges or repeat awards. The foundation appears geographically rooted in New York City but will fund prominent national institutions for large strategic initiatives.
Mjs Foundation Inc makes large, repeat commitments to a small set of institutions, with especially visible support for New York anti-poverty work, medical research, and university and cultural capital campaigns. The clearest example is its recurring support for Robin Hood Foundation, which received $5.5 million in both 2024 and 2025 after a $5.2 million gift in 2023 for general operating support for RHF’s grantmaking programs. That same multi-year pattern appears in other parts of the portfolio: the National Museum of Mathematics received $5 million pledges in 2024 and 2025 for its capital campaign, and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai received repeated pledged and program gifts tied to the Tisch Cancer Hospital and Lung Cancer Center of Excellence and pulmonary education. The foundation also backs higher-education affiliates and community-serving organizations through major gifts, including support for Stony Brook Foundation’s gala, The Center for Discovery’s endowment campaign, and Felicity House’s general operating support. Overall, the giving pattern points to established institutions, often with named campaigns, endowments, or operating programs already underway.
Urban anti-poverty work is a core theme: Robin Hood Foundation received $5.5 million in 2025 for general operating support for its grantmaking programs, matching a $5.5 million award in 2024. In science and public engagement, the National Museum of Mathematics received $5 million pledged gifts in both 2024 and 2025 to support its capital campaign. Medical and hospital support is another major thread. Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai received $2 million pledged gifts in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for the Tisch Cancer Hospital and Lung Cancer Center of Excellence, plus $1 million gifts in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for the Dr. Martin Feuer Pulmonary Educational Fund. Higher education also appears through New York University, which received $600,000 gifts in 2023, 2024, and 2025 for the Dr. Alison Estabrook Professorship at NYU.
Typical awards are large: the 25th percentile is $43,100, the median is $150,000, and the 75th percentile is $328,561, but the recent grant list shows repeated seven-figure commitments at the top end. The same organizations recur across multiple years, including Robin Hood Foundation, the National Museum of Mathematics, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Stony Brook Foundation, The Center for Discovery, Felicity House, Ronald Mcdonald House Charities New York Metro, and New York University. That repeat pattern, along with pledges and campaign-linked gifts, suggests relationship-based funding rather than one-off checks. Mjs Foundation Inc is classified as a regular funder and is also noted as funding individuals.
