The Koenig Family Foundation concentrates its giving on a small number of sizable, unrestricted grants that span international Jewish/Israel causes, neurological disease charities (especially ALS), faith-based missionary work, and community/donor-advised funds. Grants are typically labeled general operating, suggesting a preference for flexible support, and the foundation repeats grants to a few select organizations rather than dispersing many small awards.
Concentrated portfolio of a few mid-to-large unrestricted grants; repeat funding to flagship grantees; emphasis on general operating support rather than project-restricted gifts.
Koenig Family Foundation’s recent grantmaking is marked by a small set of large, general operating awards to repeat recipients, including two-year support for Central Fund of Israel totaling $191,885 across 2024 and 2025. That pattern points to a funder that favors flexible support rather than highly fragmented giving. The foundation’s portfolio reaches across Israeli and Jewish causes, ALS-focused organizations, religious outreach, and community infrastructure, but it does so through a limited number of organizations rather than a broad slate of grantees. Recent awards show that the foundation works with both operating nonprofits and donor-advised or community foundation vehicles. Central Fund of Israel received the largest grants in the file, while Sean M Healey and Amg Center for Als, Team Gleason Foundation, Greater Houston Community Fdn, Fjc, and Iskcon Mission Society in Latin America also appear as general operating grantees. The recurring use of that grant purpose suggests that organizational capacity is a central concern in how the foundation gives. Its latest 990 year on file is 2025, and the annual grants total in the dataset is $354,284.
One clear theme is support for Israeli-focused humanitarian and community work. Central Fund of Israel received $96,885 in 2025 and $95,000 in 2024, both for general operating support, making it the foundation’s most prominent recent beneficiary. A second area is neurological disease philanthropy, especially ALS. The foundation gave $50,000 to Sean M Healey and Amg Center for Als in 2024 and $22,399 to Team Gleason Foundation in the same year, again as general operating grants. A third strand is institutional and religious support outside the health and Israel-related areas. Iskcon Mission Society in Latin America received $25,000 in 2024, while Greater Houston Community Fdn and Fjc each received operating support for community infrastructure and donor-advised activity.
The foundation’s typical grant size sits in a relatively narrow band: the 25th percentile is $20,000, the median is $22,399, and the 75th percentile is $50,000. That distribution fits a strategy built around meaningful but concentrated awards. The recent record also shows repeat giving rather than one-off support; Central Fund of Israel appears in both 2024 and 2025, as do Greater Houston Community Fdn and Fjc. The grants are labeled general operating, indicating unrestricted or core-support funding. The foundation is not reported to fund individuals and does not make program-related investments.
