The Hyatt Hotels Foundation concentrates its giving on the hotel and lodging industry's workforce and professional development while also supporting humanitarian relief through large, targeted gifts. Grants are few but substantial, often directed to industry education and training programs with occasional support for major national emergency response efforts.
Highly concentrated giving: a small number of relatively large grants, including repeat support to the same industry education foundation and periodic one-off gifts to major national relief organizations.
The Hyatt Hotels Foundation’s giving is anchored in hospitality workforce development, with large general-support grants to the American Hotel & Lodging Education Foundation in both 2023 and 2024. Those awards, along with support for industry education, show a pattern of funding training, certification, and professional pathways tied to hotel and lodging careers. The foundation also makes large emergency-response gifts, including support for the American National Red Cross, which places disaster relief alongside workforce development in its portfolio. Across the recent grants list, the foundation appears to favor substantial, unrestricted awards rather than a long roster of small grants. Recipients include national education and relief organizations, as well as local workforce and community groups in Chicago and other U.S. cities. Skills for Chicagoland’s Future received grants in both 2023 and 2024, while World Vision, City Year, and Hands on Employment Services also appear among the recent recipients. The overall pattern suggests a funder that uses targeted grants to support nonprofit organizations working on job readiness, professional development, and rapid-response humanitarian needs.
Hospitality education is the clearest theme in the Hyatt Hotels Foundation’s portfolio. It gave $215,000 in 2024 and $125,000 in 2023 to the American Hotel & Lodging Education Foundation for general support. Workforce development beyond hospitality also appears in the recent grants. Skills for Chicagoland’s Future received $50,000 in both 2023 and 2024, and The National Mentoring Partnership Inc received $41,000 in 2023, both as general support. The foundation also funds disaster and humanitarian response. It awarded $175,000 in 2024 and $35,000 in 2023 to the American National Red Cross, again for general support. Smaller grants extend to community-based education and employment groups, including $25,000 to City Year in 2023 and again in 2024, and $25,000 to Hands on Employment Services Inc in 2024.
Typical grants cluster in a middle range: p25 is $15,000, median grant size is $25,000, and p75 is $48,333. The recent list also shows a few larger awards, including gifts above $100,000, which suggests selective scaling for specific national partners. Many recipients appear in more than one year, including several organizations with 2023 and 2024 awards, pointing to repeat support rather than one-off transactions. The foundation is a regular funder and does not fund individuals or make program-related investments. No application process is described in the data.
