The Harvey Kornblum Foundation concentrates its giving on Jewish communal life in the St. Louis area, supporting organizations that deliver social services, cultural programming, and community information. Most grants are directed to a small set of repeat grantees, with particular emphasis on arts and educational programming delivered through Jewish institutions and media. The foundation appears locally focused and prioritizes sustaining core community organizations rather than broad national initiatives.
A defining thread in Harvey Kornblum Foundation C/o Michael Silver’s giving is support for Jewish communal life in St. Louis, with major grants recurring to the same local institutions across social services, cultural programming, journalism, and education. The largest recent grant in the data, $71,000 in 2023, went to Jewish Family and Children's Service for arts and education, showing that the foundation’s support can extend beyond direct assistance into community programming. That pattern continues in later years: the same organization received $60,000 in 2024 and $65,000 in 2025 for assistance to indigent families, while St Louis Jewish Light and the Jewish Community Center also received repeated support for religious, cultural, arts, and education purposes. The foundation’s recent giving also reaches beyond clearly Jewish institutions in a limited set of local awards, including St Louis Crisis Nursery, Chads Coalition for Mental Health, Sherwood Forest Camp, Nurses for Newborns, Casa of St Louis, and National Council of Jewish Women St Louis. Across those grants, the emphasis remains on sustaining St. Louis organizations that provide services, community connection, and targeted support.
Jewish social services are a core theme. Jewish Family and Children's Service received $65,000 in 2025 and $60,000 in 2024 for assistance to indigent families, alongside the larger $71,000 grant in 2023 for arts and education. Local Jewish information and media is another recurring area: St Louis Jewish Light received $36,000 in 2024 and $30,000 in 2025 for religious and cultural programs and connections, plus $39,500 in 2023 for arts and education. Community programming through shared Jewish institutions also appears in grants to the Jewish Community Center, including $30,300 in 2023 for arts and education and $23,000 in 2025 for cultural and religious programs. The foundation also makes targeted issue grants, such as $15,000 and $10,000 to Chads Coalition for Mental Health for suicide awareness programs, and $10,000 grants to Casa of St Louis for helping foster children in 2024 and 2025.
The typical grant size is modest and clustered around core operating-level support: p25 is $2,500, median is $5,000, and p75 is $12,500. The recent record shows repeated awards to the same organizations across 2023, 2024, and 2025, indicating a steady pattern of recurring support rather than one-off grants. The foundation is structured as a private foundation, gives locally, and does not fund individuals or make program-related investments. The grant list also shows a long tail of smaller awards at the $5,000 to $12,500 level alongside larger institutional commitments.
