The George & Adele Klein Family Foundation concentrates its giving on Jewish and Israel-focused causes, with an emphasis on institutional support for major communal organizations and emergency/health services in Israel. Grants are typically large, unrestricted gifts directed to well-established nonprofits and religious community institutions, suggesting a preference for flexible funding to trusted partners. The foundation funds both New York Jewish communal infrastructure and direct Israel-focused health and rescue services, and appears comfortable making repeat multi-award commitments to core grantees.
Concentrated, high-dollar grants with multiple repeat awards to a small set of core grantees; predominantly unrestricted funding to established Jewish/Israel organizations rather than many small, one-off grants.
The George & Adele Klein Family Foundation makes some of its largest recent gifts as unrestricted support to Jewish and Israel-focused institutions, including American Committee for Shaare Zedek and UJA Federation of NY. That pattern points to a funder that backs established communal organizations with flexible funding rather than tightly designated project grants. Its recent giving also reaches emergency medical services in Israel, Jewish cultural and educational institutions, and community infrastructure tied to specific neighborhoods and religious communities. Repeated awards stand out in the record. American Committee for Shaare Zedek appears multiple times across 2023, 2024, and 2025, including one gift above $250,000 and another at $150,000. UJA Federation of NY also appears in more than one year, alongside sizeable support for Friends of United Hatzalah of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel North American Council. The foundation’s profile is consistent with broad, unrestricted backing for trusted organizations that serve Jewish life, Israel-linked health and rescue work, and communal continuity in New York and beyond.
Jewish communal infrastructure is a central theme. The foundation gave $190,000 in 2023 and $125,000 in 2024 to UJA Federation of NY, both listed as unrestricted grants. It also supported Fifth Avenue Synagogue with $70,000 in 2023 and Yeshiva Torah Vodaath with $40,000 in 2024, showing attention to religious and educational institutions. Israel-focused health and rescue work is another clear area. Friends of United Hatzalah of Israel received $120,000 in 2025, while American Committee for Shaare Zedek Hospital in Je received $56,250 in 2023. The foundation also funded American Israel Education Foundation in 2023 and 2024, with grants of $83,334 and $58,334. Cultural and heritage organizations also appear in the grant list. American Friends of Beit Hatfutsot received $50,000 in both 2023 and 2024, and the Museum of Jewish Heritage received $91,100 in 2024.
Typical grant size sits at $5,000 at the 25th percentile, $10,000 at the median, and $20,000 at the 75th percentile, but the recent grants list also includes much larger unrestricted awards to core partners. The pattern suggests a mix of smaller grants and higher-value institutional support. Recurring awards are common: several organizations appear in multiple years, including Shaare Zedek, UJA Federation of NY, the Jewish Agency for Israel North American Council, and the Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center. The foundation makes unrestricted grants and appears to rely on established relationships rather than one-off project funding.
