About Eric P Newman Numismatic Education Society
The Eric P Newman Numismatic Education Society’s giving is anchored by large annual contributions to Washington University in St. Louis, including $360,000 in 2023 and $320,000 in both 2024 and 2026. That pattern points to a funder built around sustained institutional support rather than a wide mix of small awards. The organization’s work centers on numismatics: research, collections, education, and the infrastructure needed to preserve and share numismatic material. Washington University is the clearest recurring recipient in the recent record, and the American Numismatic Society also appears as a repeated grantee with annual contributions of $10,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2026. Together, those grants show a consistent emphasis on university-based and field-specific institutions. The society’s active programs reinforce that picture, with support for the Newman Numismatic Portal, author research grants in American numismatics, and direct support for seminars and specialty organizations. Its recent grantmaking is concentrated in fewer awards, with individual grants ranging from modest operating support to very large annual contributions.
What Eric P Newman Numismatic Education Society Funds
A central theme is institutional underwriting for numismatic scholarship. The society gave $320,000 in 2024 to Washington University for an annual contribution, reflecting ongoing support for university-based activity tied to numismatics. It also funds professional numismatic organizations. In 2026, the American Numismatic Society received $10,000 as an annual contribution, continuing a repeated pattern of support for that organization across multiple years. Research support appears as a separate strand of giving through annual author research grants begun in 2019. The active program description ties those grants to original research in American numismatics and publication support. The society also supports educational infrastructure. Its active programs include underwriting for the Newman Numismatic Portal, administered by Washington University in St. Louis, and direct support for seminars such as the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar and the American Numismatic Society Graduate Seminar.
How Eric P Newman Numismatic Education Society Gives
Grant size is highly uneven: the p25 is $10,000, the median is $165,000, and the p75 is $330,000. That spread matches a model built around a small number of substantial annual awards, especially to institutional partners. The recent record also shows recurrence: Washington University appears in multiple years, as does the American Numismatic Society. The society does not fund individuals, and its philosophy tags point to annual recurring funding and contribution-based grants with unspecified or undesignated purpose.
