The Edward & Susan Blumenfeld Foundation concentrates its giving on a small number of large, local institutions in the New York area, with a clear emphasis on pediatric healthcare and Jewish community relief. Most dollars go to repeat, targeted gifts that support Cohen Children’s pediatric services at Northwell and emergency/social-service work through UJA-Federation of New York. The foundation appears mission-focused and favors substantial grants to trusted partner organizations rather than many small awards.
The Edward & Susan Blumenfeld Foundation centers its largest recent gifts on Cohen Children’s pediatric care at Northwell Health, with repeated grants of $257,800 in 2024 and $255,000 in 2023. That pattern points to a funder that backs a small set of closely related institutions rather than spreading support across many unrelated causes. The foundation also gave $254,625 in 2025 to Northwell Health Foundation for general support, showing continued commitment to the same health system. Beyond pediatric care, the foundation has supported Jewish communal relief and crisis response through Uja Federation of New York, including a $164,000 grant in 2023 and a $77,000 grant in 2024. Its recent grants also reach into blood cancer awareness, leukemia and lymphoma research, and services for seriously ill children and their families. Grant sizes range from modest five-figure awards to very large seven-figure-level annual giving, but the recurring pattern is more important than the count of awards: the foundation returns to a limited group of organizations for targeted, mission-specific support.
In pediatric health, the foundation has backed Northwell Health Foundation multiple times for Cohen Children’s pediatric care, with separate grants in 2023, 2024, and 2025. That same child-health emphasis appears in support for Children’s Medical Fund of New York, including a $12,000 grant in 2024 to support programs vital to the needs of seriously ill children and their families. Cancer-related giving appears in several forms. The foundation gave $25,000 in 2024 to Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation for public awareness in curing blood cancer, and $25,000 in the same year to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for leukemia and lymphoma research. It also supports Jewish community and crisis work. Uja Federation of New York received $164,000 in 2023 and $77,000 in 2024 to support people in need and respond to crises. Smaller grants to Hadassah and American Friends of the Hebrew University show an additional connection to Jewish organizational life.
The foundation’s typical grants are small relative to its largest awards, with a p25 of $1,000, a median of $2,000, and a p75 of $9,350. The recent grant list shows a pronounced repeat-giving pattern: the same organizations recur across multiple years, often with similar purposes. The foundation is a private family foundation by name and structure, and it does not make program-related investments. Its recent grants are overwhelmingly support for existing organizations, often as general support or program support, rather than one-off project funding.

Highly concentrated giving: few, large grants (three grants to Northwell totaling the majority of dollars) and repeat support to a small set of core grantees rather than broad, one-off awards.
Notable grantees: Northwell Health Foundation (Cohen Children’s pediatric care), UJA-Federation of New York (people-in-need and crisis response)
Giving is highly concentrated in New York, where 77% of grants go and where the top recipient state by count is also NY. New York City organizations appear repeatedly, including Uja Federation of New York, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in New York, and several other metro-area recipients. The foundation also gives to a smaller set of outside locations, including Boca Raton, FL; Old Westbury, NY; Aspen, CO; and Washington, DC. All recent grants in the data went to US recipients.
Its recent grants favor pediatric healthcare, Jewish communal relief, and serious-illness support. Repeated recipients include Northwell Health Foundation for Cohen Children’s pediatric care and Uja Federation of New York for people in need and crisis response. The recent distribution shows a p25 of $1,000, a median of $2,000, and a p75 of $9,350. That means many grants are relatively modest, even though the foundation also makes much larger targeted gifts to a small number of core partners.
