The Edgar and Elsa Prince Foundation prioritizes conservative Christian causes, funding a mix of local Holland-area nonprofits, national policy/advocacy groups, and international mission organizations. Grants are largely unrestricted operating support and frequently go to faith-based K–12 schools, prison ministries and reentry programs, pro‑life and religious-freedom groups, and evangelical mission/media ministries. The foundation shows a strong ideological throughline (socially conservative Christianity) while also supporting community services in its home region.
A recurring pattern in Edgar and Elsa Prince Foundation grantmaking is support for faith-based institutions and advocacy groups through operating grants, with several recipients appearing across multiple years. In the recent grants list, Holland Christian Schools received $110,000 in 2023 and another $28,500 in 2024, while Door International was funded at $35,000 in 2023 and $30,000 in 2024. That repeat support sits alongside larger checks to organizations serving different parts of the foundation’s conservative Christian network, including West Michigan Aviation Academy at $122,500 in 2023 and Prison Fellowship Ministries at $100,000 in 2024. The foundation’s recent giving also shows a mix of local West Michigan support and national or international mission, education, and advocacy work. Operating support is the dominant grant type in the recent list, and the recipients include Christian schools, prison ministries, pro-life groups, religious-liberty organizations, and evangelical media and mission ministries. The foundation’s annual grants total is $3,514,150, and its recent grant sizes cluster around smaller-to-mid-sized awards rather than large project-specific commitments. Most grants go to recipients in Michigan, matching the foundation’s strong concentration in that state.
Faith-based education is one of the clearest threads in the recent grants list. The foundation gave $110,000 in 2023 and $28,500 in 2024 to Holland Christian Schools for operating support, and it also awarded $37,500 in 2024 to Potter's House Christian School. Prison rehabilitation and chaplaincy are another visible area. Prison Fellowship Ministries received $100,000 in 2024 for operating support, and Spiritual Care Consultants of West MI received $30,000 in 2023. The foundation also backs advocacy and public-policy groups. Protect Life Michigan received $73,400 in 2023 and $35,000 in 2024, while Alliance Defending Freedom received $50,000 in 2023. International Christian mission and media work appears as well, including $50,000 in 2023 and $40,000 in 2024 to Leading the Way.
Grant sizes are centered in the mid-teens: the typical award is $5,750 at the 25th percentile, $15,000 at the median, and $25,000 at the 75th percentile. Recent examples show that the foundation also makes larger operating grants, but the distribution is still anchored in smaller unrestricted support. The pattern is clearly recurring rather than one-off. Holland Christian Schools, Door International, Protect Life Michigan, West Michigan Aviation Academy, Life International, Leading the Way, and Words of Hope each appear more than once in the recent list, often in consecutive years. The foundation gives operating support almost exclusively in the sample provided. It does not fund individuals and does not make program-related investments.
