The Crabby Beach Foundation makes a very small number of large, targeted gifts focused on tangible community impact and higher education. Recent grants show a split between supporting affordable housing/land acquisition through Habitat for Humanity (including local Kitsap County property work) and funding endowed university scholarships at the University of Washington. The foundation appears to favor sizable, institution-level commitments rather than many small grants.
Crabby Beach Foundation C/o Jeanne Becker makes a small number of large, targeted grants, with several recent awards centered on land acquisition, affordable housing, and endowed scholarships. One of the clearest examples is the $505,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity Intl, split between international unrestricted support and Kitsap County land acquisition. Another recurring priority is higher education: the foundation gave $500,000 to the University of Washington Foundation to support two endowed scholarships, following a $400,000 scholarship grant the prior year. The pattern suggests institution-level commitments rather than broad, dispersed grantmaking. The foundation also supports organizations working on community assets and practical needs. In 2024, it awarded $325,000 to Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network to assist with the purchase of adjacent property, and $200,000 to Bainbridge Community Foundation. Other recent grants include support for conservation, health care, food access, and disaster response, indicating a portfolio that mixes local place-based investments with select regional and humanitarian gifts. Across these grants, the common thread is capital-oriented funding that helps recipients secure property, build endowments, or meet major organizational needs.
Affordable housing and land acquisition are central themes. The foundation gave $505,000 to Habitat for Humanity Intl for part international unrestricted support and part Kitsap County land acquisition, and it later added $300,000 to the same organization for the same purpose. A related property-focused gift went to Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network, which received $325,000 to assist with the purchase of adjacent property. Higher education is another clear area of support. Crabby Beach Foundation C/o Jeanne Becker awarded $500,000 to the University of Washington Foundation to support two endowed scholarships, matching a $400,000 scholarship grant in the prior year. The recipient pattern points to named, institution-based scholarship support rather than broad student services. The foundation also funds humanitarian and disaster response. Recent examples include $225,000 to American Red Cross for Maui wildfires and $150,000 to World Central Kitchen for Turkey earthquake relief and Maui wildfire response. In health-related giving, Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation received $175,000 for uncompensated care.
