CARES NYS Charitable Trust concentrates its philanthropy on Orthodox Jewish religious services, demonstrated by a single, large grant to a chevra kadisha. The foundation appears focused on supporting ritual burial and related communal religious infrastructure in New York's Jewish community.
Extremely concentrated giving: one large grant accounting for 100% of reported dollars directed to a single religious grantee rather than diversified or recurring awards.
A $2,845,000 general-support grant to Chevra Kadisha Yerushalayim stands out in the trust’s recent giving and points to its core interest: Orthodox Jewish religious infrastructure, especially chevra kadisha and ritual burial services. That grant, made in Brooklyn, is far larger than the rest of the recent record and gives the clearest view of what the foundation prioritizes. Cares Nys Charitable Trust also backs a broader set of New York Jewish communal organizations, but the pattern remains tightly rooted in religious and community-support functions rather than a wide program portfolio. Its recent grants include recurring support for groups serving burial, education, welfare, and spiritual life within Orthodox communities. Several recipients appear more than once, indicating continued relationships rather than isolated awards. The trust’s grant list is dominated by general support, and the recipient set is concentrated in New York, with Brooklyn showing up repeatedly. That combination suggests a funder that favors flexible support for established local institutions working inside a specific communal ecosystem. The largest award and the repeat grants together show a trust funding core operations for organizations that serve day-to-day religious and social needs.
In burial and end-of-life religious services, Cares Nys Charitable Trust made a $2,845,000 general-support grant to Chevra Kadisha Yerushalayim. That single award anchors the trust’s strongest visible theme. The foundation also supports Jewish education and heritage work. It gave $200,000 to Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation for general support, and later awarded $100,000 and $50,000 to Ichud Mosdos Hachinuch for general support. Those grants point to ongoing backing for educational infrastructure. Community care appears as another recurring theme. The trust gave $100,000 to Child Life Society Inc and $45,000 in a later grant, plus $100,000 to My Extended Family and a subsequent $50,000 award. It also funded food and relief-oriented organizations, including $10,500 to Tomchei Shabbos of Rockland County and $60,000 to Reb Shayales Kitchen.
The trust’s typical grant sizes cluster around a median of $33,000, with the 25th percentile at $10,375 and the 75th percentile at $100,000. That spread shows a mix of smaller community grants and larger operating awards, with one much larger outlier at $2,845,000. The recent record also shows repeat grants to the same recipients across 2024 and 2025, including Davis Memorial Fund, Ichud Mosdos Hachinuch, My Extended Family, Child Life Society Inc, Keren Ezer Lnefesh, and others. The grants shown are all listed as general support, which aligns with flexible, core funding rather than project-only awards. The trust is a charitable trust, and it does not fund individuals.

Notable grantees: Chevra Kadisha Yerushalayim
Giving is highly local and overwhelmingly centered in New York. Recipient locations repeatedly include Brooklyn, Suffern, Lawrence, Monroe, Lynbrook, and Spring Valley, with Brooklyn appearing most often in the recent grants list. New Jersey is present but limited, through recipients in Lakewood and West Caldwell. All recent grants in the dataset go to U.S. recipients, and 88% of grants are to organizations in the trust’s home state of New York.
Its recent grants center on Orthodox Jewish religious and communal infrastructure. The strongest visible thread is ritual burial and chevra kadisha support, led by a $2,845,000 general-support grant to Chevra Kadisha Yerushalayim. Other grants support education, family assistance, food relief, and related Jewish communal services.
The recent grants are labeled general support across the list. That includes large awards such as $200,000 to Camp Hasc and $100,000 to Rccs, as well as smaller grants like $10,000 to Bonei Olam. The pattern suggests flexible operating support is a standard approach.
Several recipients appear more than once across 2024 and 2025, including Davis Memorial Fund, Ichud Mosdos Hachinuch, My Extended Family, Child Life Society Inc, Keren Ezer Lnefesh, and others. That pattern points to repeated relationships with selected organizations rather than isolated one-off grants only.
The trust gives mainly in New York. The recipient list is heavily weighted toward Brooklyn, with additional grants in Suffern, Lawrence, Monroe, Lynbrook, and Spring Valley. New Jersey recipients appear as a smaller share, including Lakewood and West Caldwell.
