Monday is tech & innovation day on The Grant Brief.
Three programs are putting funding directly into the hands of nonprofits using technology to do their work better. Not research grants. Not in-kind discounts. Real money for real implementation.
1. MIT Solve: 10-for-10 Challenge
MIT Solve's 10-year anniversary challenge supports tech-enabled solutions across ten of the most pressing global problems Solve has worked on, from health equity to climate resilience to digital inclusion. Selected teams receive funding plus nine months of mentorship and access to Solve's funder network. Open to teams worldwide. Solution deadline May 21, 2026.

2. Alfred P. Sloan Foundation: YouTube & TikTok (Public Understanding Program)
Production grants for nonprofits creating science, technology, and economics content on YouTube and TikTok. Submit a one-page letter of inquiry to start. Rolling intake. The broader Public Understanding portfolio also funds books, film, television, radio, theater, and podcasts under separate tracks.
3. Mozilla Open Source Support: Mission Partners
$10,000 to $250,000 for open source projects that further Mozilla's mission, internet health, privacy, security, accessibility, and decentralized infrastructure. Reviewed monthly on a rolling basis. Open to nonprofits, civil society groups, and individual maintainers.
What connects all three: they pay for application, not theory. Mozilla funds the open infrastructure quietly underneath the modern internet. Sloan funds the storytelling that gets science out of journals and into living rooms. MIT Solve funds the early-stage tech-enabled work that traditional funders treat as too risky. None of them care if you have a CS PhD. They care whether your project ships.
For nonprofits already using or considering AI and other tech tools, what's been the bigger blocker, the funding or the in-house capacity to actually deploy it well?
