Small arts nonprofits with budgets under $200,000 are often told to "build capacity" before they can land real funding. Two programs say otherwise.
1. Andy Warhol Foundation: Project Grants for Small-Scale Organizations
$20,000 to $30,000 for experimental, public-facing visual arts projects. Think installations, screenings, residencies, archive interventions. Open to US-based 501(c)(3)s with operating budgets of $200,000 or less. Deadlines are March 1 and September 1 each year.

2. Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation: Arts and Culture Program
Funds arts education, audience diversification, and cultural institution support in the Baltimore metro area. Median grants around $35,000. Rolling basis, and they ask you to reach out to a Program Officer first to assess fit.
The Warhol program is worth a close look if you're running a scrappy arts org. The budget cap means you're competing against peers, not institutions with seven-figure operations. And the Blaustein fund's "call us first" approach can actually work in your favor. A five-minute conversation before you write saves everyone time.
