Saturday is international & global development day on The Grant Brief.

Three funders are quietly building the supply chain for maternal and child health in low-resource settings. Not with massive institutional grants, but with practical support sized for local organizations already doing the work.

Worth a look if your programs touch global nutrition or perinatal care:

1. Vitamin Angels: International Nutrition Grants

In-kind commodity grants (vitamin A, albendazole, multiple micronutrient supplements) plus technical support for locally registered NGOs, clinics, faith-based groups, and government facilities outside the U.S. and Canada. You need to reach at least 500 children (6 to 59 months) or 100 pregnant women annually. Rolling applications.

2. Laerdal Foundation: Saving Lives at Birth

Up to $50,000 for research and implementation projects focused on reducing maternal and newborn mortality during the perinatal period. Averages around $30,000 per award, with roughly 20 projects funded each year. The autumn round closes October 1.

3. Raskob Foundation: International Grant Program

LOI window for Catholic organizations working outside the U.S. in education, social services, and works of mercy. Median grants around $20,000. The international submission cycle runs May 1 through May 15. All documents must be submitted in English.

What we find interesting: these three programs collectively cover commodities, research, and direct services. Different entry points for organizations at different stages.

For teams working in maternal or child health globally, has an in-kind grant (like Vitamin Angels) ever been more useful to your programming than a cash award? Curious how that shapes program design.
