The Owens & Minor Foundation concentrates its giving on improving pediatric health and family support services, primarily through substantial, repeat funding to Ronald McDonald House Charities and targeted support for safety-net primary care. Its grants emphasize programs that keep sick children and their families together during hospital stays and expand access to affordable health care for the medically underserved.
The Owens & Minor Foundation’s largest recent gifts have gone year after year to Ronald McDonald House Charities, including three consecutive $500,000 grants in 2023, 2024, and 2025. That repeat pattern points to a foundation that is closely tied to pediatric health and the family supports that make treatment possible. Around that anchor, the foundation also backs organizations working on access to affordable care, service-member and veteran support, and selected environmental and community programs. Its recent giving shows a clear preference for established nonprofits with defined service missions. The National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics received a $110,000 grant in 2023 to support care for medically underserved patients. Hope for the Warriors received $90,000 in both 2024 and 2025 for programs serving service members, veterans, and military families. The foundation also funds conservation and stewardship organizations, but those gifts sit alongside, rather than replace, its health-centered priorities. Across the grant list, the pattern is less about broad thematic dispersion than about repeated support for organizations that provide direct services, family relief, or community-facing programs.
In pediatric health and family-centered care, the foundation’s support is most visible through Ronald McDonald House Charities, which received $500,000 in each of 2023, 2024, and 2025. That recurring support aligns with family lodging and assistance for children receiving hospital treatment. For access to primary care, the foundation gave $110,000 to the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics in 2023 to help medically underserved patients reach affordable health care. Smaller clinic-focused grants also appear in the record, including $15,000 to Worry Free Clinic in 2023. The foundation also supports service members and veterans. Hope for the Warriors received $90,000 in 2024 and again in 2025 for transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connection services. In community health, it gave $10,000 to the American Cancer Society in 2025 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Typical grant size clusters in a narrow range: p25 is $5,000, median is $10,000, and p75 is $15,000. The recent record includes a few much larger awards, including $500,000 gifts and a $110,000 grant, but most listed awards are in the five-figure range. The foundation shows repeat support to the same organizations across multiple years, especially in pediatric health, veteran services, and conservation. It funds individuals and is not identified as making program-related investments. The visible pattern is direct grant support rather than a formal application-based process.

Highly concentrated and strategic: a small number of large grants with repeat support to a core national partner (Ronald McDonald House Charities) and targeted gifts to national safety-net health organizations rather than many small awards.
Notable grantees: Ronald McDonald House Charities (national and chapters), National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, Regional free and charitable clinics / community health centers (representative of NAFC-supported providers)
The foundation gives regionally, with the highest grant count in California. Virginia accounts for 32% of grants, so a substantial share still lands in the foundation’s headquarters state, but giving also reaches Illinois, Georgia, Maryland, and other states. Recent grants went to recipients in Chicago, Alexandria, Springfield, Annapolis, Richmond, Norcross, Los Angeles, and New Haven. All recorded grants in the dataset went to U.S. organizations.
Its clearest pattern is support for pediatric health and family-centered care, especially organizations tied to hospitalized children and family lodging. It also backs free and charitable clinics, veteran and military-family services, conservation groups, and some disability sports organizations.
Yes. Ronald McDonald House Charities received $500,000 in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Hope for the Warriors received $90,000 in both 2024 and 2025. Several other recipients also appear more than once across the recent record.
The middle of the distribution is small-to-mid-sized: p25 is $5,000, median is $10,000, and p75 is $15,000. Larger awards do appear, including $110,000 and repeated $500,000 grants, but they sit above the main clustering.
California is the top state by grant count. Virginia is also important, with 32% of grants going to recipients in the foundation’s headquarters state. The recipient list also includes organizations in Illinois, Georgia, Maryland, Connecticut, Minnesota, New York, Louisiana, and Utah.
Yes. The recent record includes environmental and watershed groups such as the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, James River Association, Friends of Great Salt Lake, Los Angeles Waterkeeper, Save the Sound, and Friends of Mississippi River, as well as Special Olympics organizations serving people with intellectual disabilities.
