Three funders at very different points of the climate-and-conservation field: a large national foundation funding wildlife and habitat, a conservation grantmaker with a deadline this month, and a fund that bankrolls the climate movement itself. All three are open now.

What we know: Doris Duke is one of the country's larger private funders of wildlife conservation and climate resilience, and its Environment Program backs habitat protection, biodiversity, and building the capacity of the conservation field. Grants range widely, from about $42,000 to several million dollars, spanning single-project support to multi-year institutional bets. Much of its grantmaking is relationship-driven, so a clear fit with its wildlife and climate-resilience priorities matters more than a cold proposal.

Realistic fit: established conservation and environmental organizations with a track record in habitat, biodiversity, or climate-resilience work, and the capacity to manage a substantial multi-year grant.

What we know: NFWF is one of the largest conservation grantmakers in the country: 1,165 grants totaling $432 million in its latest year, at an $81,584 median. Top recipients include Louisiana's Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and Gulf Coast county governments, reflecting heavy investment in coastal and habitat restoration. The Conservation Partners Program supports technical assistance that helps agricultural producers and landowners adopt conservation practices, with a hard July 22 deadline.

Realistic fit: conservation districts, land trusts, and agriculture- or habitat-focused nonprofits that can deliver on-the-ground technical assistance to landowners. Move now; the deadline is close.

What we know: Climate Emergency Fund is a smaller, movement-focused funder: 18 grants totaling $2.8 million at a $67,500 median, with recipients including the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict and the Oil and Gas Action Network. It exists specifically to fund disruptive, non-violent climate activism and organizing, the campaign side of climate work rather than research or direct service. If your model is advocacy and mobilization, this is a rare funder built for it.

Realistic fit: organizing and advocacy groups running non-violent campaigns to end fossil-fuel expansion or push climate policy, with a clear mobilization strategy and measurable pressure targets.
