Sunday is arts & culture day on The Grant Brief.

Most arts grants fund finished work. This one funds the process: creation, research, and education, all bundled into a single open call from a foundation built around Joan Miró's legacy in Mallorca.

1. Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca: Premios y Becas Pilar Juncosa

€1,500 to €30,000 per award / Open to individuals worldwide (US included) / Applications close July 31, 2026

What we know: This isn't a single grant — it's a package of prizes and fellowships across several categories: a €30,000 artistic creation prize, a €12,000 biennial edition prize, €8,000 each for Miró-focused research and innovative art education projects, two €3,000 educational project grants, and four €2,000 training fellowships in printmaking and graphic workshops. The foundation doesn't file a US 990, so we don't have giving history data. Applications go through MundoArti.com (there's a €1.50 platform fee per submission), and materials can be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, or English.

Who can apply: Individual artists, artist collectives, art educators, and researchers — 18 or older, residing in any country, regardless of nationality. The official bases say so verbatim for the education prize, and the printmaking fellowships include a €2,000 travel stipend specifically for international participants. US-based individuals can apply directly through MundoArti.

Who cannot apply: Organizations. Every award is granted to a natural person or artist collective, never to a nonprofit applying as an entity.

If you're a development director at a US arts nonprofit, this isn't a grant your organization can submit for. But if your org has artists, educators, or researchers on staff who apply for individual fellowships, flag this one to them. The categories are specific enough that a strong proposal in printmaking, art education, or Miró scholarship won't be competing against thousands of general arts applicants.
