Who can apply: PI must have a faculty appointment or equivalent position at a nonprofit or academic research institution. U.S. and international researchers are eligible. Investigators at all career stages may apply, although early-career investigators and new research directions are especially encouraged. Postdoctoral fellows may not serve as PIs unless they can verify a faculty-level appointment beginning by the funding period. Established investigators with substantial funding on the proposed topic are unlikely to be competitive.
