About this program

A fellowship/placement programme that sends recent Abitur graduates to serve as Teaching & Boarding Assistants (Junior German Assistants) for a full school year at boarding schools in England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Thailand and (previously) South Africa. Participants are employed by the host school, provide German language teaching and boarding support, and are provided with room and board; most schools pay a monthly allowance.

Who can apply

Must have (Fach-)Abitur or equivalent (in some cases B.A., Vordiplom or Zwischenprüfung accepted); must be at least 18 at start of placement; interest in working with children and in teaching; good academic record; cultural openness; required documents include CV, motivation letter, essays, certified transcripts and (for English applications) police clearance. Participation in preparatory and closing seminars and submission of interim and final reports required.
